So I'm totally new here and I just picked up a 67 valiant with a built 340 and 727 with a manual valve body. Problem is its still a column shift and if i'm not careful I'll go right from 1st to 3rd. Is there a tried and true or recommended floor shifter that will work with the bench seat in my valiant. Thanks in advance.

That looks good man but how's the reach? I'm only asking because of the manual valve body I'll be shifting quite a bit.

Not too bad, I do have a set of buckets and it will be moved back a bit when I put those in.

You could put it, or any shifter, on a pedestal and raise it up 3 or 4 inches, which might make it a bit better.

The one plus about it is, it is such a smooth operating shifter, that in of itself will help.

I loved the star B&M star shifter I had in my 73 camaro. It was a "ratchet" shifter with reverse lockout. Impossible to screw that up while your playing around. My Th400 was full automatic so I didn't have to manually shift it everywhere. So that may get annoying having to ratchet back and forth through the gears.

That's why I have the Cheetah, it's smooth operation. I'm going to full manual VB too.

Oh, and it has the button for the linelock built right in. :D

Yeah I heard nothing but good things about the cheetah but in the end i was just concerned about the reach since mines a manual valve body. I wound up picking up a hurst promatic 2 shifter for a truck. The handle is a little longer and curves back so I'm thinking if will end up close to where I want it. I'm installing it this weekend so we shall see.

HA...That's what I took out in lieu of the Cheetah. I didn't care for it really, and my wife couldn't get it out of Park. :D

I figured I better cure that. If we ended up somewhere and I indulged in an adult beverage or 3, she had better be able to drive the car, lol.

Haha great...well if it sucks I'll return it and go with that cheetah that I read nothing but good things about

No, it's a good shifter, I just didn't care for it. Nothing wrong with them at all, they work well.

And the longer shifter handle on it will probably be the cat's meow. I just had the standard version.

There is a member here that modified his Cheetah and it now has a Pistol Grip shifter handle.

After seeing that, he got me thinking, I have an original Pistol Grip here. As if I don't have enough work to do on the car.
