Is there any specific paint to repaint the console with. Also, what do you use to sand it down since the surface isn't smooth? Thank you, Your help and experience is appreciated.

In for the same questions. Mine has some deep scratches. I've considered sanding it smooth and possibly using a textured paint.

I thought about using a mild paint remover and some prepall to clean it. But I'm not sure if there's a mopar paint that was used to paint it. Or if it's a aftermarket paint.

I had thought the same thing , like you said..it's a textured surface and a plastic paint might work.

...just a shot in the dark, but perhaps some sort of media blasting, very light psi and the right media may do it. idk.

That could be a possibility, but might be a little costly something goes wrong and you mess up your console.

The console is fiberglass and quite rugged accept in a few areas. I've cut and filled on mine because I have a larger tunnel for a TKO so I had to shave the nose to get it back to the stock location and be parallel to the floor. Mine has some deep scratches and broken corners, probably from being stored poorly by previous owners. I'll epoxy the broken parts. Light abrasive blast might work to keep the texture and strip a layer of finish. I have a small blaster/compressor and some walnut shells, might give it a try.

I didn't know it was fiberglass, I thought it was like a pot metal or something light. That info was helpful. Thank you. Does anyone use a certain paint to repaint with?

You talking about the console body or the top plates?

I would suggest filling any deep scratches or imperfections, and then spray it with this truck bed coating to get a reasonably good looking texture and finish, for the least amount of money. Just don't get it so wet that it runs! Take your time between light coats to obtain the desired texture.
You can get this stuff most anywhere (Walmart, Ace, Home Depot, etc.)

        I'm talking about the base.

The top plates if they are majorly pitted will be a pain in the ass to repair. My dad had that issue on a 1 year only 1966 Coronet 500 trunk trim panel, we ended up just buying a damn near perfect one for $1k. He had 2 of the trim panels and both were pretty pocked. He tried to them stripped, copper coat and fill but the pot metal just warped. With re-pops of the consoles covers I'd just get new ones, which is what I did but I have a manual and the console I bought was an Auto.

Are you referring to my post above? I was also talking about the base, the lower black.

The shoe polish didn't rub off on anything?

SEM has a special textured paint for that.

I'll have to start at the beginning... my 67 buckets have steel backs with vinyl skin glued on them. Wrong kind of glossy spray paint with runs, Pretty bad scars and small dents to hammer out too. Lacquer thinner and a lot of rubbing removed the paint mess. In some spots I had to razor away loose vinyl. I filled the voids with gel type super glue. After it had a few minutes to cure a bit I pounced it with a piece of fine scotch brite pad and allowed it to cure fully. Very light sanding knocked down peeks and edges. Vinyl thickness with grain recreated. Shot with Sems Landau Black and done.
My console wasn't scared so bad but had a rear corner broken out/missing. Built a form or fence with duct tape. built the missing corner with Devon 2 part epoxy. Pulled the tape and sanded to shape. Same pounce in super glue recreated the grain on that too.
The correct very low gloss / nearly flat dye finish doesn't amplify imperfection like glossy will. I wont claim invisible repairs at every spot but one would need to look closely to find them all.
