Ok, i am piecing together a 318 2bbl intake setup for my kids car. I got a metal air cleaner stud on the spring steel wire loop for the 2bbl carb out of a box of parts in the trunk. This stud on this thing is Yuuuuge. I think they toned it down a bit in the 80s, but i think this is correct for a 69, or is it?. What size is the damn wing nut for this?? I dont think i ever have seen an air cleaner stud this size before.

That's looks like the bail off of a bbd. 5/16 threads aren't really that big. I have 1/2 wing nuts holding down the tilt front end on my 48

I have no idea what it even looks like. Other than its a big assed damn thing. Does it have a built in washer or something? Anybody got a pic of what it looks like? I guess i could get one at lowes unless you have a spare of the right type to part with.

I have one sitting on my shelf. If its still there. Its heavy stamped steel.

Everything i owned was 4bbl stuff. I think 1/4-20 thread. So when i dug this thing out, you could imagine my surprise. I would sure be interested in it, if you still have it. Send me a PM.

There ya go. I cant believe i found it. No, you can’t have it. Lol

Well ****. I gotta go find one then. Thanks for the pic so i know what to look for. I may just go pull one off an M body with the smaller 1/4-20 thread at the junkyard on my next trip.

What size is it? 5/16? Wondering if they were used on heavy trucks, etc

I purchased a 1/4-20 from classic ind, used a tapered punch to stretch out the 1/4" hole to somewhere under 5/16" and tapped the thread with a 5/16-18 tap. worked surprisingly well! (but I would love to have an NOS or good OE hint hint)

Amazon has some 5/16-18 listed that look pretty good but they never seem to be in stock even if they say they are.(I bought and paid and a month later no nuts so got refund) but worth a try!

I have a few of them but I won't be home till Jan15th. If you still need one. Contact me then. I'll send you one.

I have one of the smaller thread sheetmetal wing nuts. I may either enlarge the thread, or get another one of these wire bails from an M body.

Ok I got it figured out. Thanks for the advice Dana67dart. I used a socket, and the shank of a flat bottom punch to enlarge or stretch the hole a bit, then used a 5/16-18 tap on the wing nut. Worked like a charm. A little bit of bead blasting and scrubbing with a wire brush, and some light oil. Like new.

I was so amazed when it worked so well on my aftermarket nut. Your photos explain what I was talking about perfectly!

Happy New Year!

Very nice.
I have been experimenting with gun blueing, gives near a factory black finish . Not a wing nut, but you get the idea...

LMAO, I’m lazy, took a drive to Ace Hardware. Presto! Under a buck.
