71convert-sm.jpg So a very talented friend of mine drew this rendition for me. It's a 1971 Dart convertible. It will have a 426 hemi, with a 4 speed and a shaker hood, Dana, 15" ralley wheels, black top, black paint, black interior, black carpet and a flat black bumblebee stripe. I have a donor convertible that will most likely never be restored as such because it is so far gone. All the "bones" are there to make this a viable project for me. I have an extra hemi block, transmission, lots of sheet metal, wheels, etc. The reason I chose '71 as that was the last year Mopar made a 426 convertible. What do you think?

I think that dart will be stunning if it even looks remotely like that picture.

if you come to Montreal there is a 70 Dart w/shaker Not a 'vert, not a Hemi. Still nice looking but "strange" when you are a dye in the wool Moparite..When you don't know better, you will hear ppl say, "Oh that's a nice looking ...WHAT IS THAT A DART, DUSTER....they sure made some nice cars back in the day" response.

The shaker definitely has to be done right. I have seen a 1 with a shaker and did not look so good up close. But driving 70 down the highway it made me turn around to get a closeup look. Good luck on the build.

It is lots of work. Take lots of pictures and measurements. Mine is getting closer, but not there yet.

I think a red or white stripe would be better, but it's up to you
        Cool concept regardless

Update on rear body work. I've decided to go with B5 blue exterior, white stripe, top and interior, instead of black anything. I didn't realize black was such a pain to keep clean..... thumbnail_IMG_1002[3].jpg thumbnail_IMG_0954[2].jpg

                  I'm really confused...

Post 8 has two photos the top one has 70 up rear on a Dk green convertible
the bottom photo looks like a dk green 67 convertible

You state you have a donor car. Is the 67 convertible the doner?

OR are you taking the 70 up unique parts and grafting them to a 67 to have a 70 up convertible?

                  I'M so confused!!!!!

BTW I might be interested in some 67 sheet metal parts if the 67 is the doner!

Yes, turning the 67 into a 71. I just posted a pic of the 67 to show what we started with.

How much trimming did the connectors need?

The cars that the shaker came on were more rounded like the shaker itself. The dart is way square. It's gonna be a trick to get it to look right, but if it can be pulled off like in that drawing, it will look pretty good.

Ran into a snag. Built a "mock" block & intake to install in the convertible to fit the shaker to the hood, and found out I had ordered the wrong shaker base plate. Apparently there is stock @ 6.25" on center, stock with Edelbrocks @6.75" on center (which is what I have) and one called Edelbrocks on a Stage 5 which is @ 8.75" on center. So, they'll take the wrong one back, but wow, is the correct one spendy.

Said the man putting a 426 hemi in a 71 Dart convertible. I can't wait to see the end result. I would think that getting the hood to close properly would be the hard part. A guy did this about 20-25 years ago, and he figured out a way to drop the engine enough to close the hood. I have the Mopar Muscle magazine with that article laying around here somewhere if you are interested.

More information is always great to have. Thank you for the offer, I appreciate it. Building the mock block to install the shaker on to put in the convertible will hopefully get everything lined up in the right spot. That's the plan anyway.
