Little do you know, that is one of my feeders and one of my cameras. That fat squirrel is corn fed on some of my special mix. Turkey anyone. Freelowder pulled the cameras and chips last night at that location. We get pics of everything from squirrels to you name it. That's the location that we bagged so many squirrels. I think i see at least 3 squirrels in that one picture. Going to plant corn patch this year with some soy beans.

I'm laughing guys at the comments on the size of the squirrels. That's what you get from eating my special blend. I'm taking MeMike some of the additive saturday when i go down to get me a corn planter. I experimented for a few batches to see what really works and the one i have now is addicting as you can tell. In a controled environment it has been noted that the deer on this stuff WILL eat 10% more so that explaines the size of the rodents. They like it also. We'll see how big the turkeys are next year. They may be the size of an Emu. Let me know if you want the recipe and i'll post it. It has a flavor enhancer. Here it is as i know there are those that can and will use it.
Go to the feed store and get
50# of corn chops
50# of feed milo
50# of feed wheat
50# of oats
50# of rice bran
and what they refer to as "Pig Krave". It cost here about $4.50 a pound but it will do 1 ton of feed. It smells GGOOOOOOODD. Sorta like a cake or muffins and the critters as you can tell cant leave it alone. I mix all of this in a mortor tub and after mixed i put it back in the bags for later . You see the feeder i use so they are very inexpensive to make. An 8" piece of drain pipe with a lid from a 5 gal. bucket screwed on the bottom. Drill holes in the lid so when it rains the water has a way to get out. Use a bucket for a lid if you cant afford a cap. Place a rock or block of wood under the feeder to keep it off the ground. You may have to use a live trap to keep the coons away as they get up there and reach in and rake the feed out on the ground. Remember, a coon fatten up on this stuff is good on the Bar B. Opossums are also. What ya think? Any takers?
I'm now working on a mineral to promote horn growth rather than go and buy that real expensive stuff. I'll keep ya posted on this when i get it going.

Very nice buck.

I hope you get him.

I recently found a 30,000 acre hunters paradise in the Georgia mountains.

So far I had a doe follow me in the woods two days in a row, and my huntin buddy had two bucks fighting for a doe in his back yard so the rut is in full steam ahead in my neck of the woods, but a couple weeks out further north where we hunt and the bucks have been very elusive so far.

I shot and missed a very large doe last weekend and found that my scope was wayyy off.
I will never trust last year's scope "dial in" again.

Bill, do you feed them year round or do you start at a particular time?

Jack

Jack, i have been feeding them for about a month or maybe 6 weeks before season but if i'm going to promote horn growth i will need to keep it up year round. I spoke today with a feed nutritionist and she has a masters in deer/wildlife nutrition. I'd love to get her to pose beside one of my Mopars. Some kinda nice.....back to the subject now. For bone growth we need protien and calcium. I told her i wanted to create some wierd stuff and that's when she explained the balance of it all. We researched different feeds and came up with a mix that i'll be trying and we'll see if it will make horns. I'll buy my next batch and mix it up this weekend and start feeding it this weekend but it will be next fall for it to reveal it's effect. These things take time but i'm sure will be rewarding.

Freelowder came down and we mixed up a new batch of feed with the horn growth supplement. We just put it in the feeders yesterday so now i've got to watch to see if the consumption is where it should be. I added 4 lbs of calcium carbonate to this 250 lb batch of grain. 2.5 lbs of milk repacer,25% protein, and .40 lbs of my pig krave. We test this for awhile to see if they are consuming it. May have to add or delete some ingredients. We'll post more pics maybe tonite.

I wish I lived down by you Bill. I'd love to learn how to hunt from you.
I have big, fat squirrels right in my back yard just like those. They live off the corn from the field behind me and the neighbors bird feeders (so do the f-in mice). They usually don't bother me, but they are killing two of the trees behind the house by nesting inside. The dogs can't get to them cause of the fence. I need a quiet .22 so I can take them out. Since I'm not supposed to shoot here, I can test my generator for some cover up noise while I cap them.

Longarm: You have the genetics in your area so all you really need to do is work off of that with the additives necessary to promote the growth of the antlers. On the feeder just cut out a 1" tall by 5" wide slot in the pipe then place the 5 gal bucket lid over it and screw it to it. Set it on a block of wood when you mount it. Can you get the "Pig Krave" where you live?

That's a sweet feeder you've built, I hope you don't
mind if I build a couple like them!
We also feed mineral blocks.

Yes we are blessed with genetics, we also have a couple
albinos in the area.
I've seen several of thier offspring, there half white.
The squrriels, rabbits and pheasents are fat as ticks too.
