Diff yoke not seating all the way?

After changing the yoke on my 741 case I cannot get the new yoke to slide all the way onto the pinion . It needs another 1/8" or so to snug the pinion in place .
What am I missing here ?

Its a course spline 7260 yoke and pinion.
 
Make sure you measure the lenght of the old yoke to your new yoke to make sure they are the same:

Then check inside the splines for any burrs
from the machining process, and then lube the splines with some grease.

They take a lot of torque when tightening, have to check as you go not to get to much bearing preload on the pinion bearings, want to make sure it is turning freely.

Factory yoke .
I did not measure it but it looks to be the same . I have several .
I am using impact that is capable of 400 ft/lbs and I believe the torque spec for the yoke is 250#.

I will pull it off and inspect it again . I guess I could try another .
 

I have been elk hunting for last week or so... I got it to seat . I am just about to take the Barracuda out for a drive to see if I got the gears set right on a 741 3.23 open . Xing my fingers ! Lol
 
I would not use an impact. A good way to make a wrench for the yoke is either to hack a rectangle in steel plate or weld up a box out of rectangular tube/ etc and weld on a big handle. the "handle" can just bear against the floor boards while you sweat with a long *** breaker bar
