So i ordered my headers and my last and final piece of buying things for my 350-372 stroker is the distributor. So i have been leaning towards the msd billet distributor on summit but it only has mechanical advance. Then i see the the summit racing brand distribitor that is mechanical and vaccum so those are the 2 i have been looking at and im not looking to go over 260 for a distributor. So my question is what would you guys recommend for my mostly street driven built engine?

What kind of ignition? You can if you look around find the MP dist's which look like a stocker, have vacuum, and an ADJUSTABLE Mallory advance. Look inside to make sure. These are breakerless/ magnetic trigger and can fire several different systems, including the stock type Mopar ECU, a GM HEI module, or an MSD module

Also i want best bang for my buck with reliability and spark. I dont mimd having to get a ignition box either after. On a side note on my slant six i put a pertronix in the distributor and i loved it and it was perfect. I do want to go with a magnetic pickup maybe it would be nice to go hei?

It cost $600, but I got the entire MSD setup with billet distributor, 6AL box, plug wires and coil. Best decision ever. Starting and idle is much better.

whats wrong with the ready to run msd dist with vac advance? have it in our dart and it works nice... no need for a box, ballast or ecu.. just need the proper coil to go with it.

When Mallory went tits up I looked at ICE ignitions. I can't remember what I didn't care for but I opted to buy every Mallory box, coil and distributor I can. Well, I should say the 667 and 686 boxes, and all the old HyFire IV and V boxes I can find.

I had a butt full of MSD decades ago.

If you can find it that is the way I would go to match the curve to your specific engine, that's the key.

We used a FireCore on my dads 440. Mag pick up and adjusts just like the Mopar/Mallory. Worked great with a Chrome box. Sad thing is Mopar distributors and ignition boxes are now obsolete. I hear the Jegs brand is identicle to the FireCore. It really comes down to if you want to use stock ignition products or go aftermarket like MSD. Holley now has a complete setup like MSD. Pertronix is another option although their advance funky.

Summit puts the MSD and other distributors stuff f on sale over Christmas so I'd sit tight and watch what you want.

MSD pro billet mech. advance with a Digital 6 box. . Unless your looking for fuel economy. My distributor is locked the box does it all. 13-1 and I would run pump gas home from a cruise if the tank goes low.

I had a MSD Ecurve dissy in my car years ago. my engine would turn about two or three revolutions before firing and when I was working away and only comming home after a month my car was very hard to start. I found you had to have very good voltage in the battery for the ignition to fire. one day I could not start it, no spark. I pulled the dizzy out and put my cheap chinese dizzy in. It fired straight away and never idled better. Would crank half a turn and fire up straight away. My 410 ran a best of 11.4 @ 120mph with this dizzy and heaps better than the Ecurve MSD. I now have the programable ice ignition in it now but have not taken it to the track as yet!I know there is fake MSD units out there but where is the genuine MSD units made. China? There is not a lot of things made in USA now is there?

I have this same distributor in my 340 and it is the best I have used. The price is high as they are discontinued but man do they work. They make an advance limiting plate for them so you can dial it in exactly where you want it. Bought mine new 25 or years ago for a 440 in the box at a swap meet and never used it. And I decided to check the part number before listing it for sale, when I found out it was a small block in my 340 it went

Yeah my Dizzy is from the Dinosaur age, and runs an almost equally old Accell Super Coil. I used to run an Orange box, but somewhere along the line I switched to a Jacobs dial-back computer that has a built-in amp. I left the Orange box and harness under the hood (unplugged) in case the Jacobs puked, but it just keeps going, and going. The nice thing about that 71-up factory wiring is that you can plug any old ECU into it, and drive away, and I do mean any. Heck even the ECUs from my ancient slanty cars fired my HO 367 right up.So if you keep a spare pick-up and Ballast in the glove-box,you'll never be stranded.
My D is off a 1973 Dart 318. 'Course the thing has been recurved a dozen or more times. When you get your fueling right, any old ignition will work. I even ran that Orange box/ 73D on my 292/292/108 cam.
I'm a streeter tho so my ignition system really piles on the miles, but most of them are at under 4000rpm. With occasional jaunts to 7000 or more.
That ancient D and Supercoil, took my 68 Barracuda to 93 in the Eighth back in 2004.

You're the second guy I know who has been bailed out by a Chinese distributor!

Good stuff. Sometimes you just gotta use what you gotta use.
