I'm finishing up my mild 360.. I'm going to switch over to a MSD Streetwise box versus the factory ecu and ballast... what is a good distributor to run with this? also coil choice. should i go with a stock vacuum advance, aftermarket vacuum advance or go with an aftermarket mechanical advance? I'm still learning so be easy on me

@halifaxhops has a sun distributor machine and restores distributors... He can set up a nice stock distributor that will run nice...

Here's one that he set up for my buddy Eddie's Dart with a mild 340 and stock electronic ignition...

This isn't brake torquing, just stomping the pedal from idle....

He has a vac advance. It is just set up with the right curve for the engine. Makes a Huge difference like you see.

you can use a factory electronic Dist. with Vacuum advance or without using a lean burn plate and block off. The newer mopar performancce dist. has an adjustable mechanical advance with two screws. If I was just looking for a decent Dist. at low cost. Pro Form, Or spend the $$$ MSD billet with bearings for rpms to and above 8000. and a digital 6 with coil.

I just had that exact MSD box fail on my test bench. Should be getting it back from MSD soon. They will send a report with what they had to repair. That’s the third new MSD digital box I had fail. The first two had the same repair. It will be interesting to see if box number 3 failed the same component.

I have two of these from years ago. Offered them on here a while back on a thread similar to this. I had no reasonable offers. Sure I was offered $15 shipped so I kept them as wall hangers. They are out there you just have to look. I only use MSD. When you run these mopar boxes and a ballast resister you need to keep spares in the glove box.

i run the original orange box on my current built 318, but am wanting to not only clean up wiring in the bay i also wanted upgrade the ignition for the 360, the box will allow me to eliminate the ecu, ballast and some of the un needed wiring

MSD has a ready to run unit. I know they make a pertronix unit. But then you need to use your distributor. Check its condition before going that route.

Thats a good one if you can find a ballast for it at a decent price. I missed that up for sale.

Since we are on this I am testing a bunch of ECU's on my tester I made and tell you what I think the trick to these are having the PROPER ballast matched to the ECU. Most just throw a one ohm in and forget it.

I believe I have the ballast's . Now I'll have to look and keep them together . Learned something.

Most FSM's have the ballast values in them. Really looking into the reason of the high fails on them. I made a red neck simulator I hook up along with the dist machine. Interesting results to say the least.

When you say 'mild' 360, is the cam larger than stock. If so, a stock vac adv unit will most likely be erratic in operation with the reduced vacuum. This is a common problem & VA gets the blame when the real culprit is the person who is doing the job does understand the parameters involved.
