Dodge Ram Pickup questions

In looking for a new Daily Driver. I came across a 99 Dodge Ram. What can yall tell me about these? It’s a V8 fairly decent miles and in my price range. I would like a truck so I can haul and tow. And its Ext cab for the kids.

99 Dodge what, with what motor, what gears.........

All in all, even though I am not a fan of the RE transmission, they are great trucks. Best body on the market at that time.

Things to look out for.......

Front hub assemblies.
CAD not working right. (half tons have a mickey mouse roller bearing holding the axle)
Front driveline CV joint
Fuel pumps die around every 100K
Timing chain will need to be replaced when the water pump starts leaking.
Transmission condition.

i have had a 97 ram 318 auto short bed 4x4 i bought new sold to brother, had no problems with it. i now have a 98 5.9 auto long bed 4x4 runs great i bought used , the tranny was rebuilt at some point. i bought a new 01 5.9 auto ram van 4.11 rear had to have dealer rebuild tranny under warranty at 50,000 , have had no other issues with it but water pump at 70,000 miles. i have heard of trannys needing rebuilds from a poor stock designed convertor.

Just an FYI.......... The magnum 318 is an interference motor..........
