I bought a fan (2863215) and clutch for my '68 340 on eBay. Since the engine is a long way from being ready to run, is there any way to determine if the clutch is any good?

Fabricate an adapter to make it fit your drill chuck? Temporarily install it in a different vehicle? I don't know if I'd worry about it — it probably works fine.

If it has a thermostatic spring on the front, spin the clutch in your hand cold and get a feel for the resistance. Then take a lighter and heat the spring for a few seconds and spin the clutch again. See if it has more resistance.

From what I remember, if the fan spins pretty free when at room temperature, it is no good. It should have some drag to it & should not make a full revolution if it's a good clutch. IIRC

Chuck it up in a drill press or lathe, using extreme care. It's never going to stop spinning, but should not increase in speed past a certain rpm.

Don't try to stop it with your hand or anything for that matter.
