I had some not so good looking door cards. Took it upon myself to do a color change. Keep in mind I got these for free from someone who got a newer interior and was able to snag these up. Free is better than paying money for some aftermarket ones. Did 2 coats with some vinyl spray after some vigorous cleaning and then clear coated it with some spray. Not too bad looking I’d say. Lemme know your thoughts.

Yeah that works I bought Blue ones and painted them black was alot more cost effective than buying the reproductions.

Door panels seem to stay in good condition when you're not in hot, dry climates like the Southwest. Our cars out here don't get rusty but interior parts like dash pads and door panels seem to go bad faster.
The British call them door cards. Americans call them door panels.
Good for you, man. The painted ones can stay looking good quite awhile if you're not scuffing them with shoes or cargo.

I am gonna be in this situation soon it appears with my D250 truck. How well does that plastic/vinyl dye hold up? Any specific prep?
Also contemplating a set of leather buckets from a Durango I have on my attic for this job that are close but not quite.... More of a tan, in going for "spice" as the jeep wranglers were in late 90s for my interior color.

Honestly. I just hit it with some spray away and scrubbed it like I was turning gear in for the last time like the army and then some rubbing alcohol and let it dry in front of a fan I got in the garage, granted I DID put alot of *** into making sure they were as clean as possible. Mileage may vary, I’ve done with only a couple times and all have held up pretty well. I like to go an extra step and use some clear spray, not too heavy, for added protection. But who knows, I’m no “expert” I just try to do it all on a budget that makes sense to me. Good luck!

Considering this because I can't seem to find everything I need in one color
I never knew where the term door "card" came from either but it kind of drives me nuts.
I kinda get it for some of the older cars where they were made of thin plywood or cardboard -ish material covered in naugahyde but door panels haven't been made like that in years.

SEM is way better than VHT color for vinyl...took me till last year to realize it...little pricey but if you buy 6 cans it's not that bad...landau black has more of the oem sheen than the satin...but they both have their place in the car world...no streaking or rough overspray...absolutely love it!!!

I’ve tried SEM before, couldn’t get it to spray properly. Sprayer would clog fast so I just stick to what I can get at my local hardware store, maybe it was user error? But I’m happy with the results every time

Those British idiots from the TV show Wheeler Dealers used the "door card" term and like VD in a brothel, it spread fast.

Looks good to me. I used vinyl paint to switch my Dart over from 2 tone green to black. 1 year later and it still looks good. As long as the prep is good with wash and degrease it should last.

I painted a set of Dodge truck door panels 91 or 92 truck) with what is sold as bumper coating or paint. Supposed to be more flexible. Seem to hold up well while I had the truck but sold it after a few years
