I have the rear pop out windows out of my '74 Duster. I ordered the replacement weather striping seals from Steele Rubber. They are supposed to be delivered today. Has anyone had any experience replacing these?

I was looking at the pop out windows last night and it looks like they are riveted together with a few LONG rivets. I don't really want to go cutting away on rivets that I can't replace.

Has anyone ever replaced these seals before? :help:

I haven't messed with the seals but I have a little experience with the rivets. I don't know the size off the top of my head but you can't get the correct size from a home depot or sears. They are a smidge too short. While waiting on a part at Napa I was looking at their Help! section and they seemed to have some speciality looking rivets in there that were longer. I'd check them out and see.

I just did this myself. Those rivet looking things are like roll pins that have a flat head on one side and are flared on the other. I took a small hammer and chisel and knocked off the flared part. A cut-off wheel standing upright works as well to grind it off. Once this is done, they will come out. Then drill out the hole on the stainless part to 3/16. The hole in the steel portion should be 3/16 already. Replace your rubber. You have to rivet from both sides with this method, but it seems to hold real tight. Use 3/16 rivet obviously. Use a small punch to move the rubber out of the way to get the rivets down. FYI. I now have to drill my rivets back out and replace the felt that goes in the front part of the glass in between the stainless trim. Part # 2932230. The process was actually pretty easy. Hope this helps

I replaced the rubber seals in my 72 Demon's pop-out windows and did not remove the rivets or the glass from the frame. Disconnect the rear of the glass (one screw) from the arm. This will give you enough room to work the rubber out of the frame. Push in the new seal. It's been about three years since I did this job but I don't think it was too difficult because you can slide the glass up or down in the front frame piece to get the rubber pushed into place.

    :glasses7:To Demon 408:
Did you replace the front seal or just the quarter seal with this process?

    To Erobbins:
I take it that by drilling these out I can change the seal around the window and the front half.

    Thanks for all the help:burnout:

Yes. You can change the felt and seal all around after you drill them out.
