I have a n edelbrock performer intake on my 72 dart w/318. I have a coolant leak in the front(above the timing cover) I will replace the intake gasket. My question is ,do i have to use edelbrock intake gaskets? There are several brands available, dont want to do it over by saving a dollar. Thoughts??

Be sure the leak is at the intake gasket and not the thermostat housing.

Or up thru the bolt holes, you did use sealant around the threads?

It is not the t/h. I put a GOOD gasket on it. I can see it oozing out when warm (between the intake and block).

I use Greg for my W2 gaskets... just spent an hour on the phone with him Friday .
But for the RPM on the Barracuda I really like those Eddie gaskets with the embossed ring around the ports . Fixed a vacuum leak that was hard to detect .

Edelbrock gaskets are just repackaged felpro gaskets that are more expensive...
On aftermarket intake manifolds I always use the 1213 felpro.. it's thicker and takes up a lot more of the expansion...

Needs a smear or more of silicone around all 4 water passages. The Felpro 1213 is embossed, gasket is ,063 thick?

Felpro 1243 for the 273/318 sized intake ports with the exhaust crossover blocked.

Thanks to all. Always had good luck with felpro. Will go that route.

I apply a skim coat of ultra black around the water ports on both sides of the gaskets, not a heaping bead. Allow it to “fully” cure before adding any coolant. Never had any leaks using the skim coat method
