Engine Casting 4104230 318 “Race Engine”?

Howdy people, I’ve found an engine in an old rusted out pickup that was owned by a longtime Mopar enthusiast that passed away. According to the white book, the casting number 4104230 is listed as 318 “Race Engine”. Does anybody know what this means, and is this engine something I should snag. I can buy the whole truck, which is a 78 step side 4x4 that he was known to drive. Any help before I spend the money would be much appreciated.
 

unless it has an X cast into the front of it next to the timing cover all you have is a run of the mill late 70's~80's 318 block
 
I was just reading an old thread that mentioned the X, so I’ll go back and look for that. Not saying it will be there, but the owner was known to run a lot high HP stuff, and worked at the proving grounds. I’ll report back on this.
