Looking for suggestions on engine harness suppliers...
Are any better than the rest for quality, fitment, etc.?
(Classic, Year One, etc.)
71 Swinger/340/Electronic Ignition

Agree, M&H are the best. I just did my 67 Plymouth. I have a modified ignition so I had to upgrade to a 1970 style
system-meaning- installing a dual field alternator and resistor. Other wise if you're stock you should be good.
I took the time to lay the harness out and label every connector with tape. And planned out the path.
But- The harness in my car had 3 connectors at the bulkhead, the harness kit only came with 2. The one not provided was to the wiper motor, so you may have to keep and rebuild it , if you have it. Dry fit the connectors on a bench before installing, they can be tight and hard to tell if truly snapped in.
I actually have a harness I need to sell. For points ignition. I'll post model number shortly.

I only have 2 examples when I was restoring my 71 Demon 340. I used an Evans Wiring engine harness. It all aligned perfectly to the original, routed the same, and was plug-n-play. Easy-peasy.

Then I needed a forward lamp harness for the car. At that time, I could only get an M&H harness for it and everyone always said how great they are. Bought it and laid it out next to the original. I quickly noticed some of the breakouts were off by an inch here, 2 inches there, etc. I installed the harness and had to work at it/on it some to make it fit. It's "ok" now but not what I expected.

So with my experience, I always recommend Evans Wiring for any/all harnesses he makes (he doesn't make them all). Bonus is he's a nice guy to talk to when he and his wife have their wares at various car shows selling harnesses or components/connectors.

I also recommend M&H

ALL quality harness are made by M&H and resold thru several suppliers. Vans Auto, Year One(arrogant clowns) and several others.

I have been able to get them from Summit Racing recently for less $$$. GO TO THE M&H WEBSITE TO FIGURE OUT THE CORRECT PART NUMBER - DO NOT TRUST THE DISTRIBUTOR (Year One, Summit, Van's) LISTINGS. They are often incorrect and you can often get M&H harnesses that they don't list on the distributor's web site. Get the number from M&H and then go to your preferred distributor by phone and ask for the product using the M&H part #.

Just did a quick search on M&H website, sends you over to yearone.

Curious to see what it comes with lately, I like the confidence inspiring words/phrases in the description: most, several, if not all, may vary.

Sounds like a phone call is in order.

Also noticed a dash harness is $800 smackers.

A few years ago I bought an AAW complete harness, fuse box and all, for $300.

Most engine/forward light harnesses include several, if not all of the following connections: temperature sending unit, oil sending unit, coil power, alternator, horn relay wire, washer pump motor, high/low beam headlights, turn signal indicators, and side marker indicators. Other connections may vary depending on your particular model.

I have Evans in engine/forward light/transmission
And it's A-OK
Main and rear are M&H as they were att time only game for those

The thing about Mopar harnesses is they are separate harnesses for a lot of stuff. Under the hood there is the main harness, the wiper harness, the transmission harness. All sold separately. That really drives up the price. I made my trans harness as I didn’t want to pay $75 for a couple pieces of wire.

The same on the inside. AC harness, light package harness are separate.

I have gone to actually calling M&H, telling them what I need and asking for the proper part number. Looking for those pesky sub-harnesses (usually associated with a paid for accessory item) I also found that some harnesses, and small pieces they use in making up harnesses, M&H will sell you directly if they haven't specifically licensed them to distributors.

The M&H wiring comes with a long enough wire for electronic ign to put it in the correct location. The one I got from Evans was way to short to put the box in the correct spot.

I 'converted' my harness to electronic ignition, this isn't rocket science wiring.

I'm all for ease of use and install, at some point it's not worth it to spend big $ on a 'correct' harness.

Especially if you're going electronic, or electric fans, or Denso alternator, etc.

It's always a good idea to get a harness with modern fuses, no bulkhead connector, all the wiring for accessories.

Unless you're going full restoration, then ignore my rambling.
