Exhaust temperature

Hello all,

Heat cycling a fresh build an I'm curious about exhaust temperature and what it can indicate. Mild 340 9.9:1 Iron heads with a SFT cam. Exhaust is in the 480*-90's on one bank and 520*+ on the other. with a collector temp hovering around 550*.

All input appreciated.

Just curious , what intake and carb ?

Edl torquer and a 750 cfm Holley with a linkage set up that I'm not familiar with: Listt #8156 It seems to have a faster secondary ratio. The torquer was not my first choice, but it's been altered for decked cylinder heads so it lined up well enough.

Those are quite mild temps. I mostly look for even numbers. If one cylinder was 900 and the rest 450 then I would be concerned. Really concerned if one was 180 and the rest 450.

What no pictures?
 
I already pulled into a parking lot at night with my Diesel. I looked out my window and it was glowing orange under the truck. I thought I left a magnetic light under the hood
 
Mine will be 1425 or so in the AM....

Hot. Exhaust temps are supposed to be hot. Yours sounds hot.

EGT is a pretty effective way to gage fuel distribution. Are you using skin temps with a gun or do you have individual Tcouples or? The more isolated the better but generally the bank IS NOT a good gage for cyl 2 cyl. Temp is relative to speed, power, spark timing, etc. You always should read plugs!

Just a temp gun.
 
I like em a little closer bank to bank than that. Accuracy of measurement is important though. If it’s different bank to bank then the intake manifold is most likely the culprit and we know the torker is a problem child. Put an RPM air gap on it. Or you can side jet the carb to even it up. As said above read plugs always.
 

At idle with no load the difference is no problem but heavy load and rpm, if you have big distribution problems it can be pretty bad. Problem is it’s hard to convince your wife to hold the temp gun on the header while you make a pass.
