Did Chrysler make a 7.25 rear end in a BBP?
I was talking with someone yesterday at Carlisle that claimed they did.

I don't know the particulars, I just know Chrysler made um. Also as luck would have it, you cannot make a LBP 7 1/4 from a SBP 7 1/4 as the housings axles and backing plates between the two are all different. I know. Stupid.

Ok...thanks.
So I'm assuming Dusters also, does anyone know if they were put on Volares or Aspens?

Yea, I found that out yesterday in my conversation at Carlisle. I'm hoping they were put on Aspen and Volare's. There are a lot more of them in relatively un-picked condition in eastern PA junkyards than Dusters and Darts.

My 74 had a 7 1/4 BBP. You might look at the cars that had front disc or a V8, I'm not totally sure that has any bearing on it or not. But the ones I have seen have the BBP rear.

I've never seen one in a Volare or Aspen.......like that means much. All I have ever seen in those cars was the 8.25. But certainly they could have come with them I would think.

Bingo.......

Found a source for it. It seems the 7 1/4 was used on A,F,M and J bodies

F-Bodies (1976 to 1980)

1976 to 1980 Dodge Aspen, Aspen R/T
1976 to 1980 Plymouth Volare, Road Runner
1979 to 1980 Plymouth Volare Duster (special Volare package and not a separate model)
Wheelbases:
108.7": All 2 door models
112.5": '76 4 door models
112.7": '77-'80 4 door models

M-Bodies (1977 to 1989)

1977 to 1989 Dodge Diplomat
1977 to 1981 Chrysler LeBaron
1977 to 1981 Plymouth Caravelle (Canada)
1982 to 1989 Plymouth Gran Fury
1982 Chrysler New Yorker
1983 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Avenue
1984 to 1989 Chrysler 5th Avenue
Wheelbases:
108.7": '80-'81 2 door models
112.7": '77-'79 2 door models; '77-'89 4-door models

J-Bodies (1980 to 1983) (All models were 2 doors with a 112.7" Wheelbase)

1980 to 1983 Dodge Mirada
1980 to 1983 Chrysler Cordoba
1981 to 1983 Imperial

Thanks everyone for you help!

73 and up. I have 2 of them here. It is a totally different animal from the earlier 7.25. The axles don't interchange, etc..

If you was here I have a complete 7 1/4 bbp rear end that you could have for pulling it.

All the bbp 7 1/4" I have seen on the A-bodies have all been on 73 up disc brake cars. Some were on /6 cars and some was on V8 cars.

I have a '74 dart w/318 front disc & 7 1/4 BBP....last week drug a '66 Belvedere out of the weeds onto a trailer, after exchanging the flat tires for the ones off of the Dart. The Belvedere is a /6, manual trans, and 7 1/4...

A body 7-1/4 was big bolt pattern 73 and up only if it was a disc brake car.
All A body 8-1/4's were big bolt pattern.
F,M,J used 7-1/4 and 8-1/4, all large bolt pattern. More F bodies had 7-1/4's than 8-1/4's.
F rears are wider than A's.

My '73 318 disc brake Dart Sport is BBP with a 7-1/4.

The '74 318 Valiant with disc brakes is BBP is an 8-1/4

The '75 318 Duster with disc brakes I had previous was BBP with 8-1/4.

I don't know what the criteria for axle choice was exactly.

So it looks like I'm limited to Darts and Dusters if the F,M and J's are wider.

What are these worth?

The best deals are generally found by getting out and beating the bushes. I have bought A-body parts cars from $85 to $400. The supply is dwindling everyday with people out looking finding them and the price of scrap being so high.

Do you have any pick and pull type yards in your area?

Both of mine came from under Valiants.
They are worth their weigh in scrap metal.
