I'm looking for factory carb pics for TQ or anything with original cruise control. Going from the 2bbl to something else in my 75 360. I'm sure I'll likely have to adapt something, but I'd like some original stuff - pics - as a reference. Thanks!

Can it be done without the power brake booster?
Any aftermarket kits?

There is no need for a power brake booster, all you require is a good manifold vacuum source. I had installed cruise control on a 70 Dart without power brakes, using a late 70s Aspen for all of the necessary parts. It was probably 25 years ago and I don't remember everything, but it wasn't really difficult. The only thing that I remember having to modify was one of the speedometer cables, the connector on one end had to be changed, but I don't recall which one.

At one time there were dozens of aftermarket kits, today I have no idea.

I retrofitted factory style cruise control on my 74 Duster using factory parts. I am using an aftermarket Holley Carb so the connection to the carb would not work the way it did from factory. Details are here.

Here are some pics I found on line when I was researching the job. I hope they help. By the way, after some screwing around, mine works great! But all the details are in the video.

This is interesting info for my hypothetical, steathly, long distance cruising 74 Duster build.
Thanks

I have an older version (audiovox) in my 84 D-100. Been working fine for many years. At one time I did installs of SCS brand units. They were real nice and trouble free. To bad that company went belly up.

Does anybody know the first year that Cruise Control was an available option on A Bodies?

Anyone know if a servo from an early 90s truck can be used on a carbureted setup without the computer? I have a couple of those and a couple of vehicles id like to adapt cruise to.
I used to have a few 70s/early 80s setups but again "used to".....
How available are replacement speedo cables as used on those earlier setups?
Marty Mopar had an ad not long ago I think he had like 115 of that style cruise control stalks... I believe the fitment he posted was something like 79-86 but looking at a couple of 80s trucks columns I've had apart lately (both non tilt, don't know how that changes things?) don't know how that effects fitment of that part..... But from what I saw on those columns I don't see why that same controller wouldn't retrofit to older ones as well.

The cruise servos from the TBI computer controlled trucks cannot be used. They require the smarts of the computer to regulate speed control. Anything up to 87 or 88 or what ever the last year of no TBI can be used.

!988 pickups were fuel injected and had computers except for the models that had 360 engines. These had Q-jet carbs and no engine computer. I'm looking for a cruise handle for a 88 D-150 with tilt column, and 360 carb engine.

Check with Marty Mopar. See if the ones that he had would work. Don't remember if he advertised them here or on one of the other many sites we all go to.

Thanks for the bad news haha... I have 2 of them.
Both are from 91/92 trucks so I'm not sure if they are TBI or magnum.
Wonder if they could somehow be used with magnets zip stripped to the driveshaft like the aftermarket kits did.

Another cruise control question others may be wondering about
What about a stick car? Would the switch that disarms the cruise that's normally part of the brake/stoplight switch on the brake pedal then moved to the clutch pedal or is there a second switch on the clutch pedal?

The aftermarket cruise controls I am familiar with used a brake switch, and if stick a separate clutch switch. One model Cruise also had a connection to the ign coil as a safety. If the rpm increased too rapidly it would disengage the cruise and allow the throttle to close.

I run a factory cruise control setup on my '74 with a 4 speed.

The factory never offered CC with a stick, auto only, so I found a brake switch from an early 90's Dakota with a normally open circuit and mounted it above my clutch pedal so it is closed when the clutch is up. The same wire that goes through the brake switch goes through the clutch switch so it works the same as it would in an auto setup. Push the clutch down, circuit opens and CC disengages.

Works great.

Cruise control is a factory or dealer installed accessory so look in the service manual under accessory for installation info. 1970 and up system is what is needed. It's not rocket science but all the parts must be there. Note there are are least 2 different lost motion links as one is taller, not sure why and never looked. Cruise will not work without the lost motion link. Btw at least one 6pk C body left the factory with cruise. Photos are out there like on my other computer showing the hole for the lost motion link...it's the only ctr carb i ever found with the correct hole for the LML......
