That's a lot of work. I used 50 year rated black roof sealant in a caulking tube to seal and smooth out the seams. Helps keep water and such out of them, makes it more visually appealing and it's paintable.

Welding upside down on dissimilar metal thickness's took some experimenting for me. I ended up switching polarity on my welder and using a stitch welding technique. I started the puddles on the thicker metal and then swept up to pool it onto the thinner sheetmetal. It smoothed things out a lot.

I started with plates 1/8 steel plates on all the rear section on the original frame and crossmember that helped sure it up

I learned how to weld as i went starting with floor pans. Welding takes practice and learning from mestakes i am still nowhere near a “good” welder but i got the job done.
I’m all about learning new things. If you want it do it.

Looks good. Can you explain the second pic? I’m not sure what’s going on there.

I needed something to make sure the area was perfectly flat and needed something to get a good weld to.
So i took a 16ga steel and cut and bent a lip on either side.I made it to fit inside the original frame rail. I drilled holes in the frame and plug welded the plate 1/8inch up inside the rail. Than took some 1/2 in square stock and welded it to that with stitch welds.
The bace was just so i could weld the absolute **** out of the 1/4 inch steel i made the leaf perches to and know that it will hold and be level. A bit overkill but i like it.
