Finally Picked a Color!

Or should I say "Colour" for the bike. 2008 Aston Martin Merlot Red. It's a very deep, small metalflake red that's quite classy. 8) I about burned my eyes out this morning going through the paint chips in the sunlight.

You do know that both of those colors look very much like an old (1963-1967) Corvette color right (I forget which year, but one of those). The name of the color was called Marlboro Maroon, think it was an option on the 1967 model but don't quote me on it. Great looking color though.

It looks alot like the Ford 69 Royal Maroon too. Thanks for the kudos, thought the bike would look very different with that color.

Thanks 4spdragtop! I'm really hoping it looks deep with the 5 coats of clear and color sanding this guy's going to do. I'm also hoping that it "pops" in the sunlight without looking garish and with a darkness in the body lines.

There's an Aston Martin in that color that cruises around here and I've seen it up close and man, that color just blew my mind!

Excellent news! I'm glad you got to see this color in person and still like it, lol!
These are 2" square paint chips and trying to visualize in my minds eye what it should look like is hard work (since the body work is at the painters).

I hear you on that. Lol, the paint scheme on my Dart is almost impossible to visualize in my mind. A flatblack '72 Dart with a white shadow mask kinda deal.

Haha, yeah, I know! I hope your bike comes out nice. Any estimates on how much the paint is gonna cost? I know the Nissan equivalent costs a small fortune:angry7:

Um, yeah... A lot. About 1100 bucks, but they're doing all the bodywork and start with 3 coats of etching epoxy and give a lifetime warranty.

I've have my 2010 Triumph Rocket III Roadster and a 1996 Kawi ZX600. Right now the ZX is just the frame , engine, tires, carbs, etc is put together. It runs. It has a brand new rebuilt engine and trans. I got over $1200 just in that. The frame , swing arm, and anything that would come off has been powder coated flat black. New brakes, filters, front turn signals, rear turn signals, basically everything will be new. I need to put the plastics on it, make sure everything fits correctly, then disassemble it, paint, and put it all back together. You've got love doing this kind of stuff in order to stay sane..... I think! lol

Not trying to Hi jack your thread Joe.... I just want to share my little project with you.

Here's some pics of the '77 KX1000A after I picked it up. I've made more than a few mods since then and more are to come.

Do you have a air dam/windshield you going to put on it or you're going to leave it stock?

I bet that thing will move being 1000cc

I want to get mine painted and sold but might just keep it and race the **** out of it! I don't know... you've got me thinking a little different now... lol

I'm not going cafe racer with it, more like stock with a lowered drag bike look. Kinda of a subtle "street fighter" if you know what I mean. Back in the day they made K&N super bike bars. Those are no longer availible, but I went with Renthal SE MX aluminum bars with a 2.5" rise, very different and very street fighter looking. I've never seen anyone do it yet. I also went with a EX500 clutch lever perch with adjustable lever and a ZX600 front master cylinder. Retro Mod, lol. I dropped the front forks 24/32nds of an inch, added a new Dunlop GT501 on the front. Pics to come, I'm scraping gaskets right now.... :toothy10:

Not much to paint, you are correct. Tank, sidecovers (not in picture) and tailpiece. It's a naked bike for the most part. Factory says 83 hp stock. I be at about 95-100 easy with very minor mods. They are good for low 12's off the showroom floor and deep into the 11's with a header, K&N's and some tuning.

Here's some pictures for Ax. First and second is the new bars and controls, third shows the lowering and front fender I modded to fit this bike and fourth shows how bad the paint really is, the bars it came with and the old controls. Note the cracking on the tach face. I fixed it to a point, but it needs new faces.

Can't go wrong with "Resale Red", lol! The guy gave me 3 books and said "Pick a color". :cheers: I imagine the price for a whole car would be much, much more expensive.

yeah, its gonna be just under 1100$ for that Nissan red. That's the color my sister is painting her Nissan. Me and her husband are gonna be the ones doing all the body work on it and he is gonna paint it. So luckily for her, labor is free minus food for her work force:toothy10: If you were closer, im sure he woulda taken on your bike as a job. He has been working on bikes for probably close to 10 years. Fabrication and paint are his forte
 
Nice color pick, Joe! Of course, I'm partial to a deep red with dark body lines and a chrome front fender on an old Kawi! Throw is some fine lines of gold pin striping and it looks really good!! LOL.

G@$ D@&g it, it's cold out here in the garage tonight. Good thing you guys in live in Georgia where you can do bodywork most winter days. :toothy10:

Thanks for the offer and I wish I could take you up on it. It ought to be fun for you to get some body knowledge from someone who really has it down. I never was very good at it and figured I may as well pay a pro. I painted my last drag bike and it was just "OK". No one came up and said "What a shitty paint job" but no one said how great it was either, lol.

Oh crap, we're going to have twins..... :read2:

Those Mark II engines are nice. I'd like to get my hands on one and work a little magic on it.

Next year I'm going to have the crank welded and indexed, add a Dyna ignition and coils, a set Micky flat slides and a Wiseco 1075 kit.
