finally weighed the duster today

What kind of scale?

What are the specifics on your duster. Like options/mods that could add or subtract weight. motor, trans, rear...

Weighed it at the scrap yard .
Taken off? I think everything I can ? Bumpers, hood, interior, actually you name it and I've probably took it out.

Can you list what is done to the car from factory to get it where it is now? Glass bumpers? Hood? No interior at all and one seat? Manual steering? Stuff like that please!

scrap yard scales tend to weigh a little lite about 4lbs to the hundred around here . my cousin is gov certified in this . he says hes not out the door and they change them back .

Have a glass rear bumper but haven't put it on yet. NO - bumpers, hood, no interior of any kind -no ash tray, dash pad, glove box or lid, no heater, windshield wipers complete gutted doors. 10 gallon plastic fuel cell, battery in the back. up front- manual steering, manual breaks.
I do have everything from several donor car's to put the interior back in (black) along with a new carpet kit still in the box. The mother of all (a-body) finds- a decent dash pad. I'm leaving all that for my son in Colorado when I give the car to him in a couple of years. It will be a fun (and easy) for him put the interior in and become more bonded with the car. I also have some doors and some other stuff to (boxes of) give him.
Originally a slant 6 / air condition / auto NOW 410 stroker 4 speed pistol grip 8 1/4 355 trac lock soon to be 8 3/4 410 spool.

Not where I go. I go where all the old timers go. We would have the owner for lunch if we thought he was messing with our money !! "My mind on my money and my money on my mind" LOL
They weigh there own trucks.
And last it was 3000 with me in it and 2780LB's by it's self .I went straight into the non-ferrous scale and weighed myself at 222 ? Where did the two pounds go !?? I'm sure the ferrous scale rounds to the nearest 10 pounds - 2 pounds up? I'm sure it would be safe to say the scrap yard I go to is not putting a thumb on there own non-ferrous scale to pay more for the expensive stuff like - copper, brass ect. ?
Conclusion : the car is probably 2778 LB'S ?

Yup, that is pretty light. Oddly enough I was able to weigh my car this past weekend too (it has been over 10 years since I weighed it). I was guessing it was 3200 with me in it, and it turned out to be 3195 with ½ a tank of fuel…so 3025 without me in it.

Are you going to add the important weight frame connectors roll bar I could go on you take out the heavy stuff now but it comes back a little at a time. Stock disc brake vs lite weight brakes. I have a 71 Duster 2950 with all stock glass, fiberglass hood front bumper I even have a bench seat because I like it? and carpet no back seat. I want to take out another 100 but where. It gets harder. But you have a good start point.

it's going to depend on what I do this winter if I ad more power and easily get below 11.5 et I'll be adding the roll bar and such but on the other end going to aluminum heads for the power so there will be some trade-offs.

yeah, I had no idea? I knew it was getting lighter but that was pretty light! I'm sure I've got at least another hundred pounds to lose puttin on the drag rims and tires. take a rim and tire off today to check the difference. and my project for today is to take off the stock trunk lid and start cutting and grinding away that extra one that I bought a few months ago for just this purpose.

My '70 duster weights 3180 all steel except glass hood has full interior, rollbar, frame connectors, steel wheels even stock drum brakes.. been 11.0's...

Yes its an on going trade off you would be surprised how much weight from stock front drums to wilwoods. I run consistent 11.30s at 118 mph stock stroke 340 small solid cam 13.1 comp, stock lightly touched x heads not even gasket matched. But I have to run 4.88 gears 5000 stall. So even with that always working on the weight its cheaper.

Wow! I was surprised ? 2780 LB's with about 8 gallons of fuel and street rims and tires
was that with you in then driver seat? wow great job i hope i can get my 73 duster down close to that with me in it.

Our 71 Duster...last time I weighted at the track it was 2780....glass bumpers front and back...steel hood..one seat...roll bar..frames tie...ladder bars and coil overs. rear suspension...

probably lighter now with fiberglass hood..and light weight bumper brackets..smaller batteries....no sense in hauling any extra weight down the track...

fiberglass deck lid on order...

Ya, I still need to take off a front and rear rim and tire and compare the weight to my race set up.
that will probably change before the next race day.
First I plan to gut that trunk lid to a skin
then the rest of the 8 3/4 410 spool parts shoud be here tomorrow witch will replace the 8 1/4 3.55 track lock.
take off the 26/10.5/15 mt street/strip's and replace with 28/10.5/15 mt slicks
