I have been looking around can't really seem to find a flex-a-lite fan for a slant 6. I saw one guy say that you should order a fan that is one inch shorter in diameter than your factory fan to allow for flexing I guess?

I just know that Champion radiator really broke it off in me because this 3 row radiator is a straight up space hog and even when I completely remove the fan spacer I am going to be cutting it close with my factory fan if I can even use it at all...

I don't want to go with an electric SPAL fan because there are no ready made kits to install one. In fact, the details are very sparse on how to install a SPAL pusher fan to a champion radiator. I'd rather not have to mess with a radiator probe and fabricate some way to get the fan on there.

I am need of a really effective low profile mechanical fan to replace my factory fan.

Has anyone one else been in this position and successfully found a good after market fan.

The car has a 225 slant 6, 1 barrel carb. no power steering or air conditioning

I think I have what you're looking for. I bought it and decided to go a different direction so it's still new in the box. If interested, send me a PM and I'll dig it out for some measurements. I was putting it on the same setup - early A, Champion 3-row, slant, manual steering, no air.

The 7 blade ones for Volares with AC move a lot of air and are pretty thin. I tried Flex fans for my slant but they're too deep and hit the engine if you don't have at least the stock spacer in there.

Yep. It's slightly more than 17 inches, so some folks call it a 17 and some call it an 18, but it's the same fan. They're pretty easy to find if you have a decent junk yard nearby. It's about the only fan besides the old four blade that fits my setup.

I had a flex fan and I eyeballed it for fit in my Barracuda, but there is no way. A flex fan is naturally deep, and the depth is all to the back side of the hub. Even with a max spacer, it would interfere with the power steering pump and belt. But any of the 5, 6 or 7-bladed fans used on other A-bodies would be an improvement over the 4-blader.

17'' is about the most you can fit.Maybe a 18''like armyofchuckness stated.Gets close to the upper hose. Ran this one for years,17'' Flex a lite. only photo I got.

I have a slew of new barely tried 17" fans. One 10,000 rpm flex fan/about1 hour on it, a regular 17" flex fan, a clutch type /polished 6 blade/17" alum.bladed fan, that has less than I hour on the clutch and it`s "only 2 5/8" tall!" . Also have full length clutch which is 3 1/4' tall . Two 14'' elec fans /less than 1 hour on them, a 15" elec fan/was used as a pusher to come on at 200* and doesn't have a bunch of hours on it either.
If u can use one , I can send phone pics-----and can save u some $$------I have done a lot of experimenting, trying to keep 755 horses cool------------bob

Oriellys sells em for 35 bucks flex fan if you have a early abody slant six without power steering, flex fans work really well I have a 20 inch and never reach 185 always at 180

You'll never have any cooling issues and never need a shroud either have one on my early dart slant six

392C3828-5786-420C-962E-F6F2E69A1AC4.png Casey........I have a 225 SL6 in my ‘70 Challenger. It operates on the Super Six set up w/the BBD carter 2 throat, Mopar elect. Ign. Orange box and Hooker headers 3 into 1 configuration. I have run this set up for the past 15-20 years, I have had the 18” Flex-A- Lite S/S fan on my engine for about that long. As Slantsix64 suggested it moves a lot of air, and also have no fan shroud on it. I have no problem with cooling, even here in SoCal and no contact issues with the radiator or the engine. I did polish the fan extension and polished the blades on the fan. I have no power steering or A/C to get in the way. It does quite nicely on triple digit days. Except for the not having any A/C w/ a black interior.

your radiator core is the thick for a early a slant six car, also with power steering installing a flex fan is not possible the fan will hit the bottom pulley there is a early a slant six A/c fan with six blades you can use, i would just run electric fans
