Fuel pickup tube filter sock?

I bought a Tanks Inc fuel injection tank and pickup assembly (for use until I convert to fuel injection). The pickup assembly uses a 1/2" OD nylon tube. For those with similar setups, what have did you use for a filter sock or in tank filter? How was it secured? I can't find any socks that are 1/2" ID to slide over the tube. Tanks Inc does not sell any filter socks.
 
Just a thought. Can you take a 3/8 and drill it out to just under 1/2 fit?
 
I have never seen any sock filters that had enough 'meat' to drill them out to a larger size. Do you have a brand/model/ particular example? I called Summit and all they had was either 1/4" or 3/4" socks.
