Is there a decent paint that is at least resistant to fuel? I have a new tank, and would like to protect it somehow, preferably with some type of spray paint.

    Thanks!

I used eastwoods gas tank paint for the outside. The car doesn't get any severe weather but still looks good after 7 years of being summer driving.

Outside. Is that a spray or brush on paint?

I would think that any good clear would buy you 20 years.

I don't expect you will be getting any fuel on the outside of the tank. If you do you have a problem that needs to be fixed right away

Degreased my new tank with a fast dry paint solvent, scuffed surface with a scotch brite scuff pad, sprayed on 2 coats of gray primer surfacer, then 2 coats of single stage silver metallic acrylic enamel with the DXR-80 hardener.

Sealed up nice, and chemical resistant too.

Me too. I highly recommend the Eastwood paint. What @George Jets did looks REALLY good. I wish I had done mine like that. IF you want it to look like that, and IF you have the ability to apply paint like that, It is what I would do. If you don't want it to look that shiny, the Eastwood paint is a great option.

Personally I like the galvanised look of the oem tanks.

              George Jets' tank look great!

I've recently being thinking the same. I cleaned up an original tank that still had a decent "galvanized" look and sprayed it with a satin clear. The idea was to reduce the chance for rust but not have a glossy look.

I can't have a tank like GJ's. I'd be under the car washing and waxing it!

Slip plate works great for that.

It’s a spray bomb, but worked well for me.
