Hello folks I got some questions. 1971 Dart Swinger My gauge lights wont work, I checked the fuse marked INST No power to it regardless of the headlight switch position. I can't find any wire behind the dash that goes hot when I turn on the lights. The head lights do work. What wire is the sender from the fuel tank? Where do I hook the signal wire on the tach? Coil? Distributor? Under the dash here's what I have Left side dash plug wire colors. Purple Blue Black Green Orange Right side dash plug wire colors. Gray Orange Brown Blue With White stripe Red Just by trial and error I ended up hooking up the wires off the old amp (gauge?). Any ideas would be a huge help. I searched the forum but could not find any specif posts on the hot wire for the gauge lights. Thanks for looking.
You may want to start with a schematic for your car. Go to http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/1971/71DartA.JPG and http://www.mymopar.com/downloads/1971/71DartB.JPG Check your firewall and ammeter connections first then check the fuseblock. I believe you're looking for power on the tan wire (at the fuses) coming from the headlight switch. Your tach wire goes to the neg side of the coil. Don't hook up wires directly to the ammeter unless they are fused. Good luck.
