I did see a couple guys from the local tuner outfit try to stick it up the nose of the local track officials.
They brought a short bed 1/2 ton 4x4 Chevy, said it ran 12 second quarters.....

Made one lap, Got bounced before getting back to the timeslip shack......

Twin turbo,, 427" LS, went a high 5 second eighth at 120 something...... with lap belts, not even a bar.

That truck was never gonna be a track car, those guys had "street racer" tattooed on their foreheads.
      No prep, 3a.m. ride.....
Even most street racers have more sense nowadays.

        Congrats!!!!

Now post up your combo in the 9 second zone in the racers section so everyone can read what it takes and how you did it! You’ll be helping fellow MoParians out big time. Include the details!

Congrats !!! there are quite a few guys running 10.00s at my local track because they don't want to deal with the requirements needed to run in the 9's. My track is pretty strict as per NHRA and insurance requirements if a person exceeds E.T.s of which the car is legal for they will be warned. My car is setup to run 11.50s for the class I run , at a non points /nostalgia race recently I was dialed 11.46 and wasn't wearing my fire jacket and was warned about it. Being a " regular " they let me make the run but I put the jacket on next round. Just an FYI: Snell 2010 helmets are no longer acceptable in NHRA competition , Snell 2015 and 2020 are acceptable / required. I had to replace my 2010 with a 2020 to race this year.

So you had to replace a perfectly safe, suitable, protective device, MERELY because it was timed out, and nhra "has a rule".
Sounds a little like the seat belts that are perfectly safe at 730 days, and dangerous and illegal after 731.
I have had lots of equipment on my cars that theoretically "timed out" that was never looked at by any tech inspector....... but they always look at belts and helmets, so they can MAKE you buy new for no reason..... other than "the rule".
Is it any wonder guys purposely don't run nines?

Yes and I just replaced my perfectly good belts last week also .. and of course the track just happens to sell helmets also ( you can’t rent them anymore ) I didn’t get my helmet from them . Everybody knows belts don’t go bad after two years it’s just an NHRA scam they made with the belt makers to make money. Between membership fees , competition number fee, new helmet and belts it’s getting ridiculously expensive to race not to mention cost to enter points and reserve parking space fee at my track but at least that is cheaper than dragging the trailer back and forth each week

seatbelts have nothing to do with 9’s. They require replacement every 2 years in any car that requires them. 11.49 and quicker

Agreed. So nhra supports this scam to enrich seat belt makers for a much wider victim base than just nine second racers, they can victimize any body that "by rule" needs helmets or belts....
My point in avoiding nines is to avoid the other garbage rules that come with running nines.

agree. You can go 11.55 with a 50 year old lap belt the car came with, but 11.49 you need new ones( that were made better) every two years.
The helmet certification lasts much longer, so can’t see complaining about that. Same with fire jackets, you can use them forever. But the belts…..stupid!

I think window nets and trans blankets are only good for two years also.

Well, what about when you buy a new helmet, wear it maybe three times, and then the rule changes, and your NEW, perfectly good helmet becomes garage art after six months? Goodbye $300. It's happened to me.

I may be wrong but I think a helmet is good for ten years , but I don't know how the rating and length of service is factored ,my old helmet was a Snell 2010 and I had to purchase a Snell 2015 0r 2020 I purchased the later. I have been racing a long time and have quite a selection of old helmets and belts that there is really nothing wrong with. Another thing NHRA recently said that new cars with no mods can go quicker than 11.49 with no aftermarket belts or roll bar i.e, new Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, Vette etc. but I don't know the cut off e.t. or speed to which they are required to have the safety equipment.

A helmet is good for ten years, if they don't change the requirements less than a year after you bought your new helmet.......

they come out with new snell ratings every 5 years, and a helmet is good for two of them( 10 years)
So if you bought a 2010 snell, it expires in 2020, etc, etc.
It pays, regards helmets to pay attention when you buy them what snell they have. I bought a 2015 about 4 years ago, it’s good to 2025, so I will get about 7 or 8 years out of it. The 2020’s hadn’t come out.
Frankly, it sucks, but whoever sold that one to you should have clued you in it was set to expire
Right now, 2015 and 2020’s are good to go.

Yeah, this time I made SURE it was a 2020 Snell. The big mail order outfits are still selling 2015 snells, so only good for another three years.......
It's just kinda too bad that the 2010 snell is a better quality, better fitting, more comfortable piece than the cheap piece of sbit 2020 snell.

You can sell those to autocross guys running NMCA and perhaps SCCA. They don't check dates. They just require you to wear "a" helmet.
