Gold Membership payment method on Paypal

I went to renew my gold membership that ran out a while back and while I have a PP account with a balance that I would like to use, the only payment method offered was having PP charge my credit card. Is this the only way?

It also appeared that the membership would automatically renew and charge my card every year? I don't typically allow this because these memberships (or magazine subscriptions, etc.) can get out of hand if you aren't paying attention to them, so I always renew manually. Is this not allowed now?

Paypal is our payment processor. If you dont login to paypal, you can use it by clicking the credit option.

Its been this way for years. If you want, after you sign up, message me and I can turn off the auto renew for you.

I've got a PP account and it logs me in when I click the purchase button. But I would like to use the cash balance in my PP account, not my credit card. But I'm not getting that option so I have to assume that only credit card payments processed by PP are accepted?

no it can still go through pp --
 
Well, I'm still not seeing an option in the PP window to use my account balance, only the credit card. Can't change the payment type, only an option to add a different credit card. I checked and made sure that I have using the balance as my preference in the PP app. Not the end of the world I guess, but a little irritating when I thought I could burn up some of that account balance.

all of that happens outside of my control -- its all within paypal.
 
Interesting part is the "auto renewal" only happens on A bodies, not B bodies. I've paid using my balance most every time, both here and there and numerous giftings. Once you pay, just go back to your Paypal account, click the transaction and turn off the auto renewal. Takes 30 seconds.
