Got a favorite dog breed? Which one and why?

Currently have three long-hair black/red gsd's, so I guess they are my favorite.

I've had quite a few through the years... A couple German Shepherds, a Belgian Malinois and in the last twenty years Siberian Huskies...

I loved my Shepherds & Malinois... Very smart, loyal & focused... However good or bad they tend to intimidate a lot of people... Huskies on the other hand seem to attract people, especially women...

Miniature Dachshunds. They are strong willed, but are also devoted, loving pets. The black one, Luna, is daddy's girl. She wants to be with me at all times. If I am sitting in my recliner, she is in my lap. Nothing like a little wiener dog. The brown one, Hermione, is mama's girl.

My wife wanted a Doodle of some type, so we did our research and found a local breeder. This is Lucy. She's a mini Australian Labradoodle. She's smart as a whip and loves attention and affection. Full grown she weighs 25 pounds and she's definitely a lap dog.

I love all dogs. I want to put a lawn chair out next to the road and pet every pup that comes by, and there are a lot of dogs in my neighborhood. My choice for favorite would be a black lab. I’ve known a lot of them, and they are so animated and smart, there is never a dull moment with one in your life. I also like pitties, they are so friendly when treated as such. Our last dog was a lab/pit mix, the smartest and loving-est dog ive ever had. She passed away last August, that was a hard time for me, I can’t bring myself to get another dog just yet. Bella was the best dog a person could have, and I still miss her every day.

Grew up with Keeshonds and have had a couple of Beagles. I’d say the Beagles steal my heart, especially if they are good rabbit dogs. We have a rescue mutt now that responds to Benji. I think he’s a Morkie but not sure-they are a cross between a Maltese and a Yorkie. He’s about 17 lbs. Good with the kids but craps on the laundry room floor. We’ve tried and tried to break him of that but haven’t figured him out. He doesn’t shed which is an unexpected bonus!!

Your mention of Beagles and rabbits brought back a memory of one of the Beagles I had in my early teen years: We were up in our local SoCal mountains one weekend and I was walking him along a rarely traveled one-way road when we both spotted a single quail about 50 feet ahead of us. I reached down and unclipped his leash and the dog was after the quail like he was shot out of a cannon.
The next scene was straight out of Roadrunner cartoon.
The bird started running and just when my Beagle was about four feet from catching it, the quail made an immediate full speed 90-degree turn to the right.
My dogs head turned but his body kept going straight as he tried to get his legs to make the turn.
The quail disappeared into some brush and my dog stopped and looked all around trying to find the bird. He finally looked back at me with an expression that said, "WTH was that?"

We had a dog while our kids were growing up. Did a bunch of research and got a Goldendoodle. This was WAY before Goldendoodles were popular or even known! He was born in 2004. 72#'s at his peak and would stand and lick me in the face. Tall skinny dog with no shedding at all. He was very smart and followed me around EVERYWHERE. Would basically do anything I even mentioned...how did he know so much? He was always by my side.

Ripped my heart out when he passed on a Christmas eve after living 14-1/2 years, a long time for a big dog. That hurt is why we never got another dog. But if we ever do, it will be another standard (ie. large) Goldendoodle. Both of my kids have Goldendoodles now!!

My friend Tom Andrews had a little female Beagle in a nice enclosure on a concrete patio behind his house. She was his baby, so he had a blue tarp over half the enclosure, deluxe dog house...the works. He forgot one thing...WIND! We were delivering a new Buick to a customer and a storm was raging. Tom's house was along the way, so we went by to check on Michelle. We were just in time to watch the wind catch under the blue tarp and pull the whole enclosure off the patio across the yard until it hit the neighbor's garage. Michelle's little feet were hauling *** to not get run over by the chain link enclosure. I know the exact expression on a dog's face you are talking about. If only we had a video of that one.

I grew up with boxers, so i like those
Truth be told, in a car person much more then a dog person but my middle child often times dog sits for people and somehow i tend to be the one doing the late Night or early morning walk

As long as it reaches above the knee, om prolly ok with it

Like @Harrison, I love the minature dachunds. Loyal and loving. Yes they can bark a little too much, but hey! who is perfect.
I have had beagles and bassets, love those.
Had a couple of Rotts, the absolute kindness dogs.
Had a pointer, a wonderful dog.

The man that has never experienced the love that a human and a dog share...unfortunately, there is a piece of that person's soul he will never know.

Had this Irish Setter for 13 years, best friend I ever had. Just saying when you get a pet you sit yourself up for the worst day of your life. RIP Sunny

We've had Shi Tzu's (Shitzoo's)since 1997. Annie, Rags, Prissy, Buster, Thurman and Bella....in that order, lol. They are smart as a whip and very loyal little dogs. We're down to Miss Bella, who is a rescue we got last May. We got ol Thurman last March. He was an old guy that somebody set out and abandoned. He was a sweet ol guy, had a lot of health issues, but was the easiest one to take care of that we ever had. He never fought or flinched when we had to give him medicine, eye drops or a bath. He truly seemed appreciative and we were fortunate to have had him in our lives, even if it was only for 5 months. We lost him a few days before Helene hit last Sept. :(

Shih Tzus for me. I never wanted or had a dog until Dec, 2008. We got 6 week old Riley for my wife's niece who lived with us. I thought he was pitiful. Full of worms and had fleas. I thought he would probably die nd I would be out $300. Right from the start, he would bite your fingers if you got close enough to him. The niece wasn't crazy about him. I had a lot to learn about dogs. I took over the responsibility. Before long I wouldn't take a million dollars for him.
Three years later we got 17 week old Belle. She was beautiful, smart, and came with manners. She would look to me for approval before she would do most anything. If I opened a door, she wouldn't step through it until I told her to. I did not train her for that.
I lost them both in 2024. My heart was crushed. I never wanted to go through that again.
I cried at least once a day for a week, then occasionally for the next month. There were no smiles or happiness in our home. After nearly 3 months, I was only looking at pictures. I kept going back to one in particular. Sophie. Talked to the breeder, made a deal, and picked her up the next day. Now she means almost everything to me. She is my shadow. I rarely go anywhere without her.

This one suits me just fine. Very smart, mid size like 45 pounds, and doesn't shed bales of under dander. Some will say a mutt, but it's a breed in development, the Mini Hippo. A cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Sharpei.

When my black dapple Miniature Dachshund, Luna, was younger. she used to see birds on the ground in the back yard and chase them. I used to say, "Luna, you'll never catch a bird", but one day she did. She was really fast. She caught a decent sized rabbit in the yard once also. She was chasing it, and it ran around the storage shed. Luna ran around the shed in the opposite direction and nailed it when it came around the corner. A natural born hunter.

We lived near a huge wooded conservation area. One day we heard this gawd awful animal noise somewhere in the forest......Sounded like an animal being tortured. Concerned, I went to investigate a found an older guy running his Beagles. I'll never forget that sound. :)
