I used to have this 1970 440 Six Pack Dodge Challenger R/T and I’m curious if I could ever find it again.
    The VIN is: JS23V0B401468
I know this is for A bodies only but, I think there’s probably people here that are sharp at tracking down old Mopars regardless of body type. Thanks.

New one to me & the 1970 Hamtramck Registry. Do you have a broadcast sheet or any other paperwork from it?

With the power of the internet, I’m sure it’s possible. I’d check with For E Bodies Only as well. Say you find it, to get the other party to sell it is another thing.

I want to say I sold it in 83, maybe early 84 in San Diego to a buyer from Alameda, CA.

No. I used to have a photocopy of the window sticker but it appears to have been lost over time. I pulled the back seat up after I bought the car from the original owner and there wasn't any build sheet. I just learned that some build sheets can be on top of the glove box. Don't know if that is true but I never looked there.

Thanks for the E Bodies only tip - I should have guessed there was a thing!
I actually started this whole scour the internet thing because I'm feeling the need for a nice 68 Barracuda. I had a nice one of those in the past as well, along with a 68 GTS and a 68 Sport Sattelite. Lots of cars I should have just hung onto but, oh well. Almost retired and am looking to have a toy to play with again. :)

Ha! Yeah. It was quick but not fast with 4:10 in the rear. It would pass up everything but a gas station.

I know in Calif, you can go to DMV and for a fee, you can find out the owners information. You fill out a form requesting the info, give them your $$ and sign the form. You get a copy and they send a copy to the owner, notifying them of your request.

I see that your location is in Virginia. Perhaps you can go to your local DMV, provide them with the VIN and ask if they could do a 50 state search for it. Or if you have a friend on a local police dept and they don’t mind sticking their neck out for you, they can run the VIN as well. In today’s climate, they may be unwilling to do that.

The problem I see with DMV is, if the car hasn’t been registered for sometime, it drops out of the system and you’re back where you started from. I hope this helps you out and gives you some options. Good luck.

In Ohio it is public record, go to BMV and there is a place you can put in the vin and do a search

The VIN in CA should at least get you the owner you sold it to if he registered it, and anyone else in CA that registered the car after that.

I sold my TA years ago and a person contacted me a couple of years ago about the car. He thinks he has the car, but it has been made into a race car. It's nothing like the car I sold years ago.

I hope you find it, I've been looking for my 70 Challenger SE sold in Virginia in the early nineties.

              Good luck.

                I hope it works out.
I was able to back track ownership of one of my cars, but a car that I sold in 1989, no love. It seems to have vanished.

Great news on the title searches. In MD you used to be able to get the name and address of the last titled owner. Then the Privacy of information act passed and they quit doing it. Maybe they are doing it again. I gave my wife's uncle my 58 English Ford in the early 80's. Then he gave it back to me just before he passed away. His wife said some one offered her a lot of money for it. I still had a registration card and took it to DMV. They did a search and Uncle Ernie had never transferred the title, so they printed me a new one. I was loking over her shoulder and the screen listed every car I have ever owned, so the info is there. He died of Alzheimer's. She told him she was selling the old car and he told her it wasn't his, it was Joe's, make sure he gets it back. She was very good about it and made sure I had the opportunity to go get it. Funny, the last time I saw him he recognized me and my fishing buddy from way back when, but couldn't remember saying hello when he answered the door. He was another fishing buddy, sure miss him.

Sorry for getting O/T, good luck with your search.

I accidentally found my parents special order '71 Road Runner on facebook. There is a group dedicated to '71-'72 Road Runners where I joined and described the vehicle my parent's had purchased new when I was sixteen-years old. That same day, the current owner of my parent's old car read my comment and thought it compared with a Road Runner he was restoring. He sent me a foto of the California license plate and sure enough, same car! Maybe facebook has a group for 1970 Challengers?

I have tried in ND to do vehicle searches through the DMV and the only way you can do it is to give them the VIN or the license plate number. They will then send the owner of record a form that he/she has to sign to allow the DMV to send you their contact information. If the DMV can't find the car in their records, then you are pretty much out of luck.
