Got a new high stall "Hybrid" converter for my 65 Valiant 170 slant six race car. Andre at Edge Racing converters was great. 9 1/2 inch 3200-3400 stall, with a small pilot (early engine), and large (27 spline), late trans. He really bailed me out. The 170 engine only had the big crank pocket in 1968 and 1969, and most 170's have been swapped out for 225's, long ago, so finding a 2 year only crank was getting frustrating, and I have about five early 170 engines.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a convertor for my slant in the 66 valiant. any tips or suggestions? 225 with .120 milled off the block, ported head with oversized valves, Erson cam ( cant remember the spec's right now ( nothing crazy about 460 lift? ), Aussie intake & Clifford headers. Mostly a cruiser, might get a torque storm blower down the road. I put an aftermarket 1800-2000 stall that was behind my 318 in it and its way to tight, almost stalls the engine when its put in gear.

Hoping to get the car to the track by late June, early July. Want to be low 14,s to high 13's N/A.
Vitamindart: Most any "off the shelf" converter, is rated for a V-8, and won't stall that rated speed behind a slant. You really need to call a converter company, and discuss your needs/wants. Plus a 1800-2000 is not much more then stock.
Mike: Yep, solves one of my major issues. Now I can build the trans. Still working on the engine.

He has been great to work with. Bought my first converter from him about 12 years ago. Several other slant sixers have bought from him, also.
Edge converters is also sponsoring the Clay City slant six reunion race, with a gift cert, good for about 3/4 the cost of a converter.

Your best bet would be to call. Give them the info of your combo. They can make a pretty good guestimate. The 1st converter I got, just told them what info I had (no torque or hp) and how much stall I wanted, and they were very close. This converter is the same situation, new build, no numbers.

I've bought two converters from Andre at Edge as well and he's been fantastic to work with.
