I run an app called Ulysse Speedometer on my phone.

It's free and doesn't have very noticeable ads.

But to answer the OP's question, I have not used one of those type speedometers. However, I do use a phone app GPS speedometer when I'm street driving the avatar. Don't really need it as I'm usually getting passed by little old ladies scowling at me but I use it just to know what speed I'm actually going in case I'm in a residential area and trying to be respectful. And being a red car and loud...well, you have to be somewhat cautious!

I use a phone app also and have a magnet mount on my dash

I see the speedometer and not the chair. Haven't used one, but typically the complaints I've heard are that they respond slowly and can drop out in tunnels or some city environments.

A cheap non-name unit might have other ways it can go wrong too.

Same problem. Main drag thru outskirts of town is 55mph, and often traveled (by others ) at 65-70.
I tend to run too slow with 3.91s in one car, and 4.10s in the other.
Heck, I drive the box truck faster!
We won't talk about the 33 with the 4.87s.....lol

My 62 has 3.91s and 28"slicks, but I think you are still more stiffly geared than me.
I've got a 3.55 punkin but it needs a sure grip and bearings. I think l'll probably stick with the 3.91/dapco locker.

My issue is I changed gears on my truck (2.94-3.55) with 30" tires. Threw it off a bunch, I guess I should break down and grab a pinion gear for it...bigger issue is the Dart in the avatar speedo quit on me and I thought the GPS might be a cool intro into updating the instrument panel...but phone apps and the suction cup deal might be better cuz I can switch between vehicles.

I have one for my 64 Valiant. Works fine bought it off E bay little over a year ago.
I tested it in my Escalade first. Accurate to 85 on the Pa. Turnpike.
Only issue with it was it attracted this gray car with flashing lights or I would have gone faster.

The one I use is called "Thunder GPS Speedometer." I'm an Android phone guy so that's what it's for. Works pretty well and is configurable. FWIW...

a GPS for driving directions will show your mph also

Mine is a digital readout, plugs into the cigarette lighter. I can use it in almost anything. (No cigarette lighter in my Opel. Good thing it's got a speedo. I have no idea how accurate, lol)

I have Been trying this thing out. it Sort of works for $20 it isnt bad. but the Compass is worthless and the Odo resets every time you turn off the car.

Gps speedometers are very accurate.

Problem is if you get in an area that can not communicate with the satellites. Inside the Eisenhower tunnel in Colorado on I 70.

1 mile long.

I find I learn pretty quickly what the tach means in terms of MPH when I have the app up. I may forget it when I haven't driven the car for a few weeks (or months!) but overall you relearn it pretty quickly. Well yes there's tq conv slip to consider but if I'm worried about my speed, I'm not on the loud pedal anyway! And if you're not leaning on the loud pedal, even the 8" TC I have has very little slip so the tach is pretty darn close.

I find I learn pretty quickly what the tach means in terms of MPH...

Back in college I drove a 72 Dart (like the one I have now, actually) and I often swapped tire sizes and had 3 different rear ends in it...used a tach for speed once I'd paced myself with a friend at 60. Kept me out of jail.
