Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

It's always been a comforting feeling, knowing you go to battle or work...armed with the low-bid protection.

Does anyone on here shoot bolt action long range specialty pistols?
Not yet but I’m trying to find a xp100 I can afford in 6BR or 7BR to play with. Doubt I’ll go much further than 400 yards with it, which I consider on the short end of long range, depending on what the target is.

Exactly that! Hah! Well said.

This is the very reason I train so many LEOs for absolutely no charge. Their Depts trying to maintain budget parameters will forego training allocation everytime in favor of keeping one more guy on shift. It is a terrible quandary Chiefs everywhere have to face. The dollars for our local Dept are pulled from city water works. The guys are passionate and determined to succeed but invariably they pay for a lot of their own ammunition and equipment including training. A couple three weekends ago I was working with some ERT (SWAT) guys. They hollered at me and said they wanted me to work with them. Keep in mind this is during the last heat episode. I said I would and what time would you like to get out here. Their reply, “Lets start at eleven so we are in the hottest most miserable time of the day” end quote. We did running and gunning two man drills for 4 hours in 100 plus degree heat. We were baked when done. These guys are warriors. Training is a real cost, and a lot of LEOs invest in themselves as they have no other option. Emergency services are not popular in todays society so they become an easy target at budget time for a city council. It just is what it is.

I love the XP100, that pistol was just way ahead of its time. But man they are a sexy beast!

My wife was the CFO for an affluent city in Metro-Detroit [for 37 years]. I worked there for a short stretch, as well.
It was interesting to see how things were budgeted in the Public Safety dept. In the short time I was there, they went from SIG-220's in 45, to Glocks.
It was more about capacity, than anything....but somehow Glocks were chosen. Gee...I wonder why? I HATE striker-fired pistols.

have dabbled a bit with it running a Remington but that was many years ago. All I run across now are TCs. I preferred the Remington but will shamelessly admit some of the custom stock work on either brand was stunning. What are ya running?

I've got three custom XP-100s and a non-designated 700 rear grip pistol. Lots of fun!

At some point this 320 thing just has to become funny. I had a first today. I was in a gun shop buying a new pistol (to replace my 320).I was not happy. I am now the proud owner of a HK VP9

Yes, the XPs have gotten to be kind of hard to find and expensive when found. Take a look at the Kauger Black Widow.....pretty cool.

This is the latest platform I've decided to play with. Gonna make one 9mm and SBR it.
It's amazing, how light-weight and simple these are.

New knife purchase. I've carried a Tinker for years, couple things I could do without but wanted the locking blade.

Are you just trolling me? Trying to see if I can still type while drooling? I am greener than the wizard of oz witch with envy! Hah! Nice rig for sure!

Attention California wild game hunters! Fish and Game has discovered numerous game animals contaminated with a rodent poison. The little blue pellets appear to be enticing to many game animals and if they are not distributed in the proper fashion to poison the little critters the big critters seem to like consuming them.

Ran a group for of people through a Hunter safety field day yesterday. Had a full class of 25 sign up and had 7 no shows!! Granted it was hot (low 90’s) but it wasn’t that bad.

That’s cool, I too teach hunters Ed for game and fish here in my State. Thanks for being there! That is just a great class to teach, what a hoot. Some of the what if questions from little Johnny are simply hilarious! Again thanks for helping pass our heritage to the next generation!

320 debacle update. I am down to these top three choices. The Walther plant is literally a hour away so it is sitting at number one! Second and third are literally dead heat even. Quite honestly it is a dead heat across all three. We will see. Plan “A” is to remain with 320 for duty pistol, but that decision is the Chiefs and he don’t care about lil ole me!

I watched James Reeve's explanation of how/why the 320 got chosen. He's pretty funny while being serious. Some good tidbits in there on reliability and costs.

Ever read the book or listen to the guy who wrote the story of Glock?
edit;
Paul Barret.
This was actually a pretty good interview considering the author is a business reporter and the interviewer is not a gun person. There's a transcript if you dont want to listen. Ignore the summary it suffers from the telephone game. Go to the interview or transcript.

I forget what got me to check Reeve's now and then but his interview about the shooting of Rust was really insightful, and his trespassing one is a new favorite of mine.
