Guns, Dogs and Blades QnA

Just a drive-by on a Sunday night…

I spent the afternoon practicing with my high-velocity air rifles and thought I would share this.

This 75 yd shot into an empty beer can filled with water was made free hand while standing using my Gamo .177 Vamint 1250 fps air rifle with a 4x39 scope using a 11.8 gr Silver Point pellet.

I like using the air rifles regularly at home to keep my shooting skills sharp. At less than 3 cents per round, it’s an inexpensive way to maintain training and skills. The only difference between shooting the air rifles and the higher power weapons I own is the recoil. The rest is all the same.

Of course, I do still regularly visit the range with the bigger stuff…because there is nothing like feeling the thunder!

I do not do a lot of Air Rifle work so I don’t have much (read none) ballistic knowledge but I am guessing your zero is back yard squirrel distance, ten to twenty yards? So stretching out to 75 yards, what is holdover on your pellet rifle to make that kind of shot. A foot? I got no idea! With a projectile that light I would guess any kind of wind at all really moves ya around. I know some of the HAM (Hard Air Magazine) guys and man they take air rifle to a whole nother level.

Just got back to the hotel room, teaching over in BFE Oklahoma this week then Little Rock next week. I won’t get home till mid next week from this extended road trip. Nobody got flagged or hurt today so it goes down as a win! And bar maid mixes a very nice elevator drink! She made me a nice double and put a lid on it for the trip up to my room. Contemplating going back down for another but doubt anyone in there wants to see me in my Jammie’s! Once I take off my range togs and get a shower I am hard to move!

It has been awhile. Thought I would report back on the MPA 6GT load development. 10 shots at 100 yards. 105 gr Berger VLD-H at 2993 fps avg. SD of 9 on virgin brass.

Anyone familiar with Sig and the mess they are going through with the 320?

I’ve been considering a smaller gun for carrying and I’m going back and fourth between the 365 and the M&P shield.

Not familiar with the Sig problems but I have a Shield EZ and a Shield Plus and carry both. The Shield Plus is about an inch shorter than my Shield EZ.

I got a shield, perhaps it is because I'm left handed or the way I carry, but I've found when putting the gun away at the end of the day that the mag release has been pressed (unintentionally of course) and the magazine was not seated correctly

This mean in a situation where I would need the gun I would have one round in the chamber and no guarantee I can load follow up shots

The 320 mess keeps looking worse and worse. Here's a test you can do to see if your striker block is even doing anything.

I haven't liked sig since they refused to do a recall and had the "voulentary upgrade program"

The 365 has not seemed to have any of the saftey issues of the 320. They are not related designs

Interesting. I also shoot left handed and have not had that happen. What holster are you using? I have a We The People one and one from Amberide-both IWB. I like the Amberide better.

About the cheapest IWB holster you can find, about 7 bucks online and they last me a few years before the elastic stretches out (gotta stay true to my heritage)

Plus, it fits every pistol own

(Looks like they went up since i last bought one)

Shield Plus would be the one most likely. My main pistol is an M&P 2.0 but I can’t wear it with a lot of the pants I wear so I want something that conceals a bit better.
