I admit I have never used a HF gun, but I hear good remarks about their cheap gun in general, and seems like I am always needing a cheap primer gun. When I looking HF on the net, I see nothing mentioned about tip sizes. Surely "one size does not fit all!?" HF is not just right around the corner here to just go see.

You need a big tip for primer and single stage. . What sizes are listed?

Whats funny is how SPI states a 1.4 for epoxy but it works fine reduced some, high build needs 1.8 - 2.0 and I have never been able top shoot any polyester unless a 2.5! which I avoid!!!! I would be happy with a throw away 1.8-2.0 gun.

When I looked it up in their website, i saw nothing about tip sizes. I will call again and see of anyone there knows anything.

To find the tip size, on the product's web site listing, go to the gun's "Manuals, Guides & Downloads", open the manual and view specifications. For example, the "CENTRAL PNEUMATIC 32 oz. Siphon-Feed Spray Gun" specifications in the Owner's Manual lists the tip size at 1.8mm. The "SPECTRUM 32 oz. Professional HTE Compliant Siphon Air Spray Gun" lists its tip size at 1.7mm.

Thanks. I looked!!
I found one of the cheap guns that listed size at 1.4 and the others could not find the size.

I have used cheap guns from Summit and TCP Global over they years.
I have several guns that need a real good soaking and brushing. I will see if that will clean them.

If you need a larger tip for primers, it's easy enough to drill it out. I did that with a harbor freight purple gun to spray contact cement. It worked like a champ.

The cheap cheap ones.
High build urethane primer needs a 1,8 -2.0 and I dontt want to shoot that with my top coat gun ( which is cheap too by most standards) !
Buy the cheap purple one (1.4 tip) and drill it out with a 5/64" twist drill. That'll make it 2.0. A #48 or #49 drill will work too if you have # drills.

Good tip. I'm guessing the needle just moves a little farther forward into the seat so paint doesn't leak out?

I have an assortment of tips, but it size consists of the road plus the "tip" or what ever it is called. Maybe the tips are same. A dial caliper will tell make too!. Not sure IF they would fit a HF gun though.
I can't find my bottle brushes for cleaning my old gunned up guns also. Where did I put them last time??

I am old and woreout and trying not to keep dragging home builders, BUT it is a disease! and my doc tells me to stay active or die! Simple choice ( for now!).
Last car to do the body/paint IF I can. Good thing it is aweful straight with mostly just floor pan rust.
This is Texas ya know!!

Yep! I've done it with contact cement and another for primer. It work well. If you want to get crazy with it, you can smear a little valve lapping compound on the needle tip and lap it in to ensure a good seal. I've done it both ways, at it works fine.

^^^ Bout the size of it! OR just borrow everything that you need including using the friends shop with hoist and that $4000 compressor!!??? Have his wife grill the dogs (brats better!) and have cold beer!!! :BangHead: :steering:

If you have a Northern Tool store as close or closer than Harbor Freight, they have a decent gravity feed primer gun with a 1.8 tip. It will cost more than the HF purple gun though. Those are dirt cheap, for as decent of a spray gun that they are. I've got one I use for epoxy sealer and single stage urethane enamel. I used it to paint a 250 gallon propane tank.....and it turned out like somebody that actually knew what they are doing painted it!

Yes a Northern Tool at same town as HF.
Guns that were $45 8 years ago, are probably $85 today.
I have always bought the cheap guns at TCP Global but not in the last few years and also Summit, and as you, do well with primers/single stage. Still for good value, but who knows if still as good as they once were!!
I keep telling myself, NO more projects.
Wife just mentioned " after all the guy said he bought it for a PARTS car!!!!!
BUT< the same guy pointed to his just finished "baby" and said he had $30,000 in it!!!!!! I told her good thing I am a DIY and a cheap one at that!!!!!

Look at HF Black Widow guns.

Them purple HF guns have a good reputation and good reviews. I have one, I've just not used it yet.

I use them all the time for high build primer, but I modify them to a 2 mm tip via this guys YouTube video.

He claims 5/64" is 2mm, but it's a little under. I used a either a number or letter bit that was a touch larger than a 5/64" bit

I also remove the the internal plastic filter and wash them out really well with Acetone.

A friend of mine uses them and then just tosses them in the trash rather than clean them out.

When they are on sale it's almost cost effect to do this.

Maybe he'd send me a couple? I'll pay shipping.
