Hi All,
I'm once again terribly confused and need your Mopar Jedi Wisdom. According to my Vin I have a 1966 Barracuda 273 2bbl. The engine casting number is 2465330. The stamp on the driver's side block below the head is B 273 10-29. So far, so good....but....My Pistons have 4 valve reliefs. My Manifold intake bolts are 9/16 but My driver's side cylinder head is 2465315(1964-65). From what little I have been able to find, none of this adds up.

Here is what I have read:

4 valve relief pistons=1964-65 2 barrel 273's.
2465315 cylinder head is 1964-65 and their intake manifold bolts are 1/2".

Any input to help me solve this mystery? Only guess I have is that someone took earlier heads and pistons and put them on a 66 block. Still doesn't solve the intake bolts though........

My friend and I pulled a 273 out of a 66 with the same thing. On one side was a '65 Head with the differnt bolt angle and 5/16 Threaded boltes, and on the other side was a '66 Head with 3/8" threaded bolts and the square angle going into the head. The block is a '66 Block. One side just had a '65 Head on it.

I have another 273 from a '66 and it has the '66 heads on both sides, but it was a spring '66 block, not a fall '65 block.

Having the 2 different year heads isnt a huge problem. But remember the torque spec's are different on the smaller bolts. Tighten that side down first using correct '65 Torque Spec's of 270 Inch/lbs and then tighten down the '66 Side with the 3/8 bolt at 40 ft lbs. Then doublecheck the torque on both sides to be correct.

When I took my 66 motor apart it had 2 different heads too. One was a late 65 head and one was a 66 but both heads had the same bolts. My car was built late in December. tmm

I've found some 315 castings that were machined for the 3/8 bolts instead of the 5/16 ones. My early '66 had them.
