What rear & trany did they put in the HEMI A bodies. 4spds, automatics, rear housings, center sections. Also- what did they run in the 1/4 right out of the box. These questions have probably been asked & answered & I should know this stuff. So send me back to school so I can answer that question I was asked this past weekend. Sorry my bad, I am talking about the Hurst Hemi A bodies Barracuda & Darts

My dad had a wO23 67 street hemi. I believe it ran 13.0 on the original street tires it came with after driving it 17 miles to the track.

Super Stock Hemi Darts and Cudas had 8 3/4" axles if equipped with automatic, and Dana if 4 speeds...

They ran about 10.3 right off the trailer from the factory...

That is very interesting ! I have a friend w/ a 68 dart 440 running in the 10.70 area. He is running a 8 3/4 rear. Everyone is telling him that 8 3/4 will never hold up.

The Dana 60/4-spd cars had the A-833 4-speed (2:66/1st gear, 1:91/2nd gear q:39/3rd gear, 1:00/4th gear) and was "slick shifted" from the factory. Rear gear for them was 4:88
The automatic cars used a 727 modified quite a bit , the most notable being the reverse-pattern valvebody & a 2800 stall converter. The used a 4:86 gear in the rearend.

Yup! Apparently Tarozzi, et al thought the auto would absorb some of the driveline shock so they went with that. Keep in mind this was shortly before trans-brakes so all they had was high-stall convertors.

What Did The 1968 Race Hemi B029 Barracuda or LO23 Dart Run 'out of the box'.

      1968

Just what did the 1968 BO29 Barracuda and/or LO23 Dart
      426 Race Hemi's run.

'Out-of-the-Box' and with no modifications, and with 10.5" Slicks
      on 15" x 8" Rims.

      11.40's @ 120 MPH

Remember, these 'A-Body Bombs' were delivered with 'stock'
      426 Street Hemi 'mechanical' Camshafts.

The NHRA 're-factored' these engines to 525 Horsepower, and classed
      them into SS/B and-or SS/BA {6.00 to 6.99 Wt/Hp} for 1968

I had a 64 B-Body NSSA car that ran 10.0s with a 500 inch Max Wedge. I folded up an un-braced 8 .75 like a cheap set of monkey bars. I went Dana 60 and never had a problem after that. IMHO 8.75s are for street cars.
