Recently purchased my first mopar. 1972 Plymouth Duster 340 clone, actual engine is a 318 with auto trans. Included with the car came a la360 needing assembly. I am the 3rd owner. Car was originally purchased in Birmingham, AL near my home town. The lady that purchased it had a trailer hitch installed and used it to haul a single horse trailer! My friend purchased it in 2002 and it became his daily commuter for a few years. I believe around 2010 he decided to do an engine swap and like many times life happened and the car became dormant. There is zero rust anywhere on the car. My plan is to get the 318 running again and make it a driver then focus on building the 360 and swap the new power plant in. So far I have replaced all of the steering and suspension with parts sourced from Anderson Restoration and QA1. After having issues with installing the cheap set of long tube headers that came with the car, I went the route of installing Sanderson shorty headers and a Borgeson steering box to help with clearance. Fuel system has been replaced now as well. Headers are currently being cera-koted, and upon their completion I will attempt to crank the 318 for the first time in 15 years. As far as the 360 engine, upon inspection I have discovered the cam choice he went with is a MP4120233 .508 lift. After much research I am leaning towards going with a less aggressive cam. If you have suggestions, please share. I will be running factory rebuilt heads. Dual plane intake. Sniper fuel injection. My plan is to have a nice cruiser that’s fun to play with on the street. If it had a lope that would be neat but I don’t want to sacrifice my bottom end for it. At this point I am unsure of the axle gear ratio. Also, has anyone seen the duster lapel pin located in the ashtray before? I’m certain it came with the car and has never been removed. I haven’t seen anything on the internet about it.
