For anyone whose swapped a 440 into their Dart, Duster, Scamp. Has anyone used the edelbrock RPM intake with a flat hood, or will it hit? if it does hit, how close is it to not hitting.

I used a 14" drop base on my RB into my barracuda with a 2 inch filter. Not much clearance, like maybe an inch to the hood pad. AVS Edelbrock, linkages, electric choke, and factory type kickdown all clear the base.

I’m just to that stage in my 72 dart. 440 with RPM Air Gap and 3” filter with drop base filter on top of a 4150 style Holley. The stock hood just barely clears without rubbing anywhere. I was worried about it but relieved when it cleared.

Im planning on running a hillboarne type scoop and cutting my hood, But i dont want it to sit tucked down into the hood so trying to figure out beforehand if im going to need some type of carb spacer setup or even a single 4 tunnel ram to get the height i need. Looks like ill probaqbly be ok with a carb spacer :) Thanks!

don't bother with a single 4 tunnel ram, you'll make better power with a decent single 4 intake. i love a tunnel ram (currently have 2)..... but with 2x4's of course.
neil.
thanks for the tip, and yeah i was only gonna go that route if i couldnt get the height i needed without

I was considering spacers on a dual tunnel ram, not sure if it would make a difference either way, but it would increase the ridiculous factor.

you could add spacers below and above the carb if getting the scoop high enough is the intention.
neil.

Indeed, was just trying to gauge how extreme id have to go with them mostly. Looks like maybe a 1-2" spacer will get the job done, which would be good to run anyway to insulate the carb and help with percolation prevention to boot.

For some reason I have 2 large plastic carb spacers, don't recall how, they came with something.

Sometimes I wish I hadn't cut a hole in my hood. When I bought it it had a 440 with a performer intake and a 2" air cleaner. Have a single plane with a 1" spacer and a 4" air filter so it is peekaboo time.
