Hood hinge spring.

Can a person remove the coil hood spring on a A body mopar? Is so how do you remove it? Currently I have it at this stage.

The slot appears to be peened, so it may require some prying to get it out.

grind it out.
Thats what I did... unwound the spring 1/2 turn and peened it back in.

Yes this one is peened, was not sure if I should remove them. The reason I am removing the spring is because my hood is very hard to start the closing process. Thinking I should open the springs ,and lightly sand in between them. Hope this will help the springs smoothing out.
 
same reason I did what I did.
couldnt keep the hinges from splaying out every time.
give it a shot...tighten up the slop at every pivot/hinge point too if you can.
