Took the hood off my 69 fish to refinish. Looking to put it back on in the next few weeks. I notice the arms sticking up from the hinges don't seem to move by hand. Are these that tight that you need the hood to move them or is something wrong?

Also the weight of the hood holds them down. There is a lot of leverage there. Trying to push down by hand- takes a lot.

Yes, very strong springs. You need the mechanical advantage of the hood to overcome that tension.
If they werent that strong, the hood would not stay up when opened.

An Un-sprung hinge(closed) can be very dangerous, that sucker will jump out and take a chunk out of you! Leave them up.

The guy that rebuilds hood hinges hates to disassemble Mopar hinges.
He says he usually busts a finger tip when re assembling.

Yea! The hood actually keeps the two parts square to the body. They do work well as the proof is they still work after 50 plus years. The other style need rebuilding due to weak springs and worn out bushings.
