hood hinges

Pull the fenders and put a washer behind the hinge , Put the hinge on then another washer . Draw a line around the washer in the post and remove the hinge. Drill a hole for a cotter pin. Reinstall the hinge with the washers.. If the hinge is still a little loose due to the hole misplaced add another washer.. Make sure you have a washer behind the cotter pin or the hinge will wear the cotter pin. The factory push lock clips always let the hinges work their way out on the post. Then the hinges rub the fenders.

i was thinking of running a die on both pins and stop before the hinge after that install washer and run 2 nuts just enuff to have some play and jam nuts together

What ever is easier . I think that could be done with the fenders on . Just remove the splash shields. I like that idea.

When you say loose, do you mean loose like old-sloppy-and worn out, or the hinges themselves being loose due to a faulty or loose push lock clip. If it is just the push lock clip, your idea or @Oldmanmopar idea should work. If the hinges themselves are worn out and loose, you will have to pull them off (after removing the fenders) and have them rebuilt. I had to have the hinges on my 69 Barracuda rebuilt. the difference when I put them on was remarkable. I hope you get the easier [ath.

this is 1 part on the a body cars that i think chrysler engineers could have come up with a better hinge. i have gotten 1 pin threaded gonna get 2 the other 2morrow .i took the fender off.as far as the hinge itself the bradded pin it's real loose on both my hinges on that bradded pin so what i plan to do to take the looseness out of it find a washer that just fits between the pin and hinge arm and cut the washer in half and put both halves around pin and weld the washer on top side that should get the play out of that part and its really bad on both hinges.
