How Much is a 1972 Plymouth Duster Worth

-
No, im generally curious. I have almost exactly 11,000 into it. Was never expecting to make any cash off it back when i bought it.
See my 2nd response. Start high and work from there. The fact that it's rust free makes it worth more right off the bat.

Rust-free roller that needs lots...is worth 10. Mine was a super-bargain 2-3 years ago. 6K

Not everyone is upside down, and "value does not equal cost" sometimes works the other way.

I paid 4K for my 73 Satellite and I have (not counting wear items like tires and batteries)
1500 in the interior,
250 in a Roadrunner hood,
50 in a woodgrain cluster,
50 in a tuff wheel,
and 2000 in a paint job.

If you can find a super solid rust free and straight 73 Sat for 7850 with shiny paint, RR hood, like new bucket seats, mint dash pad, tuff wheel, and working AC- let me know.

hell Freiburger was asking 15k for his wreck. engine was comparable his had a 4 speed though. the body was trashed and so was the electrical system.

i'd be looking to get 18k+ out of it depending on the body. the previous owners handy work may hurt that value a little though.

I believe Freiburger was able to ask for 15k as a result of his celebrity status. I dont believe his cars shape or value was perfectly comparable to mine, even though it was a four speed.

For reference, this is what the car looked like in April 2024. Before any of my work had been done to it. It did run but had horribly dangerous wiring, destroyed and old seat covers and interior, horrible body work, front CA bushings where blown out, dried up, and cracked, the car could not drive straight at all. It had an improperly weighted TC and terrible pinion angle, Horrible high RPM vibration. Was basically un-drivable. The seller was asking 14k. Ended up getting it for 8k.

the engine was comparable.. his body and electrical was trashed though. dusters are still bringing damn good money though. especially 70-72 cars.

"Celebrity status" adds ZERO value, though and if someone got tricked into that, that's their own dang fault. What something is worth is what the market will bear and what someone will give. Period. All that other stuff is just other stuff.

i believe another youtuber bought it. doubt he paid 15k for it but they will make money with it.

Only thing I have to offer is when you do paint it clean up and paint the engine bay body color. And it will be night and day.

I don't know how some of you guys are calculating the OP's car so low. I'm $12k into my project and am only this far. Granted, the materials totalled $3k so far, and labor-wise I do the work myself for free, but when selling a car, you've got to factor in labor somehow.

You're 12K into a car that was/is krusty....... You chose the wrong starting point....

Well it's a rare Plum Crazy car that was about to get crushed. So the choices were to either let it get crushed or save it. So I'd say it was a great starting point. It's one of the few real Plum Crazy Demons left.

If you chose to save a particular car in spite of the final cost vs value then it has no bearing on a true WIW post..

tell me that 12K takes into account a full interior and flawless trim/grill/glass/gaskets, et al and refurb'd suspension/rear end ready to install...

Nope, $12k covers for removal and replacement of one full length rocker, R&R complete floor, R&R 1/3 of the firewall, R&R both front frame rails, R&R trans crossmember, R&R four rocker to seat braces, and R&R two rocker to frame brace things, in addition to a bunch of miscellaneous smaller things that rack up hours.

If one spends money of this amount over a period of years, who cares how much was spent? If you enjoy the project and are responsible with paying your bills and meeting your other obligations, where is the harm?
I do have to admit though that a car being a low production color would not be enough for me to feel motivated to spend this amount of money, especially given that there is still a LOT more left to do.
I have $10,000 into this car....

...Including the $5000 to buy it. It will surprise you but I got it roadworthy and running for about $5000 more.
Yeah, I "Roadkill'd" the car together with a lot of parts I already had but I did rebuild the original 383.

You ain’t a real Mopar fan if this car don’t make your pants pointy in person. You have the only patina Charger that’s actually a driver that I know personally and it rules.

Is 12K your sweat equity #? Or you are paying to have that work done.
I work for free, doing it all myself. The $12k is just a rough calculation of parts plus the going hourly rate for doing bodywork.
