I was comparing the price difference and it appears to be close, not sure if I would need to upgrade my stock 1965 Barracuda PS pump in the process?

pros vs cons?

Vac assist, you mean a power brake booster? I would think that would be simpler, cheaper, over the counter parts & less plumbing....

My buddys ffr cobra had hydroboost... it's nice.. not that hard to setup and you never need to worry bout vacuum if you build a silly motor...

I ran a LEEDs vacuum pump for a while to boost my power brakes. Mounted it in my trunk and ran the power line and hose under the carpet on the driver side. Made a little noise when I powered it up each time, but never heard it after that. Pretty easy install, but I suggest getting hose that is reinforced with wire coils. Readily available on ebay.

I have hydro-boost on my `cuda. It also has 6 and 4 piston discs, and sticky tires. It stops better than any of my 100's of cars [including my Brembo SRT's]or sportbikes I've ever owned. It's crazy, how well this setup works.
I'm running a stock 6.4 power steering pump. I don't know about earlier PS pumps compatibility. I'm also running a cooler, so I had to fabricate a bunch of my lines.

thats awsome!

I have had the hydroboost since 2017 with the Dr Diff Mustang Cobra brakes. You have all the stopping power you need.

I swapped my car to a Saginaw style pump so I could use a banjo fitting on the back to not have so much interference with the K-frame, and to do AN lines to feed it. It's just a basic pump for a Mid 70s mopar like an Aspen.

Really the only downside compared to a vacuum booster is it will heat up the firewall a little bit. No reason to care about your camshaft size though.

FYI
Many years ago;
I ran a 292/292/108 cam; 248@050, for a few months.
I ran a booster off a either a 73 Dart of a 77Aspen, I forget which; and it's still on the car , now on a 230/237/110 cam.
It works just fine down to 10/11 inches vacuum.
From a cold start, it takes a couple of blips(manual-trans car), of the throttle to charge, but after that it works normally. By the time I have backed out of my carport and we are moving off the driveway, she is ready to rock.
I am running the KH 4-pots and on the back are 10x2s
