I have a Hurst shifter that came with the 1969 barracuda. Problem, it is missing the part on the back that keeps the shims from traveling too far back and I have to fight to get it to shift. I took it apart cleaned and greased it, doesn't show much wear. I am willing to buy a new one but not sure if the 1968 A833 gear box is "new process" shifter?
The new one I am looking at from summit racing

Hurst Competition/Plus Shifters 3916789

Part Number: HUU-3916789

Want to know if it will work before, I buy it.

Do I need hurst id code 422 or 6353?

"New Process" is the (formerly) Chrysler division that designed/built manual transmissions. Your transmission's full designation is NP A833.
As far as parts for your shifter (or to have it rebuilt), call Shifter Doc:

Push down for reverse Super shifter.
Those are the old school one's we both probably had. Now there is a positive lockout lever I believe. Either way you can't beat that short throw, other than a ram rod or comparable shifter

I just found one on face book I paid $150 for just the mechanism no handle no linkage. I am going to use a mopar competition plus . combine the two by tig welding the mopar arms on it to use factory linkage with a bolt on 71 or newer hantle. They are easily identified by the round spring on the bottom. This is a GM style but will be modified to the arms on the last picture
