Ranting? Try RAVING!!!

At the time I broke my ribs last, which will be TWO YEARS come mid August............I did not even "have" a doctor, as I'd fired the last bunch over inaction and costing me money for same

I THOUGHT this new one was gonna be "it." BUT

She's spent a LOT of time "off" for various reasons
At some point I was "declared" diabetic and put on a diabetic drug which is supposed to be monitored..........

............and I ended up months ago, with a "follow up" scheduled for this next week.....and there are other issues as well

Meanwhile, earlier this spring I had Covid and spent a day in emergency.........where they.......

found evidence of problems......... CT and X ray shows "lung blood clots" so they put me on Elequis, a very dangerous and expensive blood thinner WHICH IS SUPPOSED TO BE monitored

And "fatty liver" and something about spots on my pancreas.

SO WHEN I CHECKED several weeks ago about this upcoming follow up, I get a bunch of double talk from their office staff and "nurse." And I EXPLAINED to them that I cannot afford to just drive out there and say "hi how are ya" ("You'll have to ask the doctor when you see her) I THOUGHT I had made myself clear.

SO WEDNESDAY I called over there to see if a blood lab had been ordered for next week's visit and NO!!!! I had to argue with them some more.

This morning I JUST got back from the lab FINALLY with some tests ordered for the upcoming "show."

I've about frickin had it ladies and boys. Most the doctors you research that seem to be good are not taking new patients. This one is out in Post Falls so that's a fair drive, ---specially if you are not feelin well---

And I have no idea "where to go from here". WORSE she is part of the "Kootenai Health" megagropolis complex, a huge beast that is sucking up everything around here

The medical INDUSTRY Sucks my ***!

The insurance companies basically marry you to a primary care doctor. Mine recently moved away and I'm glad. Not going into details but that guy had ignored things on my last blood survey that had the new doctor pretty upset. Now the question becomes will the doctor he's referring me to get on the stick about it, or will they schedule an appointment two months from now as though it's a joke? I'm hoping for the best, expecting the worst.

The medical industry is a joke and a disaster these days. They’ve made a lot of $$ off the Rona but they’ve lost a lot of employees because of forced mandates they tried.

As far as I am concerned the medical industry is more about shoving pills down your throat than trying to understand what is wrong and eliminate it. I am fortunate (knock on wood) that at 59 I haven't needed doctors. I can easily count the times I have seen a doctor in the last 50 years. The last needle put in me for any reason was 50 years ago. Every pill I have ever taken, over the counter or otherwise could fit in one small bottle.

For now it is business as usual for me.

I'm glad I found a doctor who knows what's going on, and is actually concerned with my health. Have an infection in my leg, and had the same thing in the other leg a year ago. He switched my meds to a strong antibiotic, and gave me two shots to speed up the process. Told me I can sneak in and get a third shot if I feel it's not healing quick enough, something he usually doesn't do. Said he wanted to tailor my treatment to my body's needs. And he and I are in agreement on how Covid should have been handled. I hadn't liked most doctors until this one.

I had the same doctor for close to 45 years, until I moved away. We had an excellent working relationship, he was not a pill pusher, (I hate taking ANY meds), and was nearly always available on short notice. Big bonus, his office was only 4 blocks from home!
I knew that he was winding down his practice, sold his building and moved to a rented space in a nearby commercial development, and was cutting back to 3 days a week, and no longer doing any surgeries.
When we moved here, my wife and I were very fortunate to find an excellent doctor immediately, unfortunately, after about 2 1/2 years, he decided to move away to be closer to his new grandchildren, can't blame him for that, and we were assigned another doctor. This time, we were not as lucky, he was difficult to understand, and I really felt that he did not listen when I tried to tell him what I was there for. He left the clinic suddenly after about a year, and we then got a newly graduated doctor. She seemed pretty good at first, but it wasn't long before my wife and her were at odds, she did not seem to want to listen to what my wife was saying, and literally cut her off in mid sentence by holding up her hands in a "time out" gesture. I was in the room because my wife did not trust her, clearly she had a reason not to.
We dropped that one and the clinic, and found yet another doctor, so far he has been at least above the last two, but we have a friend who was also a patient of his and has told us some unimpressive stories about his treatment. Time will tell I suppose, but the simple fact that I have been through 4 doctors in less than 10 years after having had only one for nearly 45 years is not a great standard.
Neither my wife nor I are on any medications, except for my asthma which I've dealt with all my life, we're both pretty healthy and will hopefully stay that way for as long as possible.

Del, I really hope that you are able to find a good, sensible doctor, sooner than later.

Sorry to read Del. m lucky to have a good Doc but its over an hour each way.
The local hospital that they recently renovated and sunk millions upon millions into is ALWAYS doing a fund raiser looking for public $$.... They will never get a cent from me.
They have next to no staff. At one point 57 patients in emerg for ONE doctor. HOW THE F**K do you run a hospital with NO STAFF?
There is a "shortage "?? Where did they go?
So NOW they are trying to "rush thru" "licensed " immigrants.....smh

Doctors are like anything else, some suck and some are great. There also not God and aren't perfect either.
Around here many practices are bought up by huge medical groups. Its so expensive for a practice to stay in business and these huge groups come along and make doctors good offers for their practice
The doctors cant afford to say no
It can be very frustrating to find a doctor who is the right fit for you.
Doctors today spend more time filing reports for insurance purpose's than spending time with patients.
When you find a competent doctor your lucky

I'll be dealing with that over the next few years. The practice merged with the hospital group that I hate. Their billing is insane, and I never had a doctor I liked, they were just rude. My doctor told me they weren't going to change for a while, I hope so.

Just an FYI. If you do need Blood Thinners, Warfarin is a fraction of the cost and does the same thing .After my Heart Attack in April they prescribed Elequis for me. At $495 Co-Pay I told them to find something cheaper. The only bad thing about Warfarin are the trips to the clinic every 2 or 3 weeks to check your INR.

I was having trouble walking, extreme pain in my legs and dr put me through all kinds of tests, x-rays circulation and was setting up an appt to see a nerve specialist. 14 months ago. I have been seeing a physiotherapist for some relief. 3 weeks ago the problem went away during a physio treatment. One click in my low back. Sciatic nerve was impinged. So now to get straightened out after all this time of muscles being in spasm…tiny improvements daily.
So not sure, would the nerve specialist have figured it out?

I've yet to see anything positive in the healthcare industry since Obamacare, except excluding known existing conditions.
If there's enough money leftover to fund all these insurance companies, maybe they could just skip the insurance companies and fund the healthcare providers directly and allow competition to bring prices back down.

Understand that we have the best doctors and hospitals in the world.
While other countries rank higher in healthcare coverage, this country still tops out others with the doctors and facilities we have
Given that might not be the case in certain more sparsely populated parts of the country and it could involve traveling long distances to get specialised treatments.

Del, I sure do hate this for you. I wish you luck in your search for a new doctor.

Thanks Rob. I'm sure that the various gobt rules along with the local megacorp--which just keeps sucking it all in and getting larger--is part of the problem

Try dealing with the VA.
I find the VA health care isn't all that bad if, you don't live anywhere the snow birds are.
Now the administrative side sucks ***.
I go to the VA in Cincy and no sweat, but I had an emergency when I was in Florida and I decided it was faster to fly back home rather than get anywhere at the VA in Daytona.

Try dealing with the VA.

Jesus H tap-dancing Christ that is the truth. I'm not a Vet, and I think it's f**king pathetic how we treat them at the VA. Socialized medicine needs to be put on hold until they figure out the VA first.

I guess it depends on where you are and maybe even the state you are in.

The VA really isn't all that bad.
It got a bad rap back in the day and, deservedly so, but it's come a long way.
Right now it's biggest problem isn't the quality of care vets get, its a matter that they can't get it.
If you are in an area that's heavy with senior citizens, like Florida, the system can't keep up.
The VA needs more facilities and people to staff them. Utilize medical schools and teaching hospitals to supplement the medical staff.
I've learned the further away from those heavy senior populations, or the ones near major medical schools, the easier to get a VA appointment.
