Getting cold in Pa so I spent the day removing the summer air in my tires and replaced it with drier winter air. You would think the engineers could do at least one thing right to make the job easier. E89DA3C0-5DD2-4A37-9501-48D79A4456A7.jpeg

I’ve heard you can fill them with estrogen for a softer more gentle ride….

Out here in Arizona, the winter air they sell on the east coast is too dry. We usually just save some summer air and mix it 50/50...works pretty well.

You know you can only run winter nitrogen in the tires with green valve caps...

You should just put the valve in the side of the tire and save the trimming!

LOLOL The "much hated" 95 Olds had hubcaps like that. It took at least 2 minutes per tire to figure out the right position for them to line up the too long/ too short/ too fat valve stems That last year I had it I just gave up and left the winter wheels on it all summer. The wheel covers didn't fit them at all!!!

I could ship you some Washington coastal air so you could mix 3 ways. Might help with time delayed thermal expansion...

Do you also have the left hand valve stems on the right side?

Not left hand thread? That weird. Bet in Austrailia the use them on the other side! I have a bunch of cores for them in left hand thread if needed.

I think it has something to do with tire balance or something like that.

I've always noticed that when they get low it's always the heavier, bottom air that gets out first.

True story: way back in the when I was a Inspection mechanic in the great Commonwealth of Pa. I had a feller bring his Dodge truck in and I had it on the lift , doing the usual "State Inspection, Emissions, oils change, rotate tires..." etc.etc. The guy was a talkative feller, hanging around the back of the garage bay watching me put his truck up, pull the wheels etc. it came time for the tire rotation, he said " see those green caps? you don't need to add air, they have hydrogen in 'em, its what they run at NASCAR..." without missing a beat and like the typical smart azz I was at the time i said "Oh yeah, well this isn't a race truck..." I realized I shouldn't have said it, but it was too late...:)

Heres one for you...way back in the day.

Some of you may not know that at an auto assembly plant, tires were filled with air around the bead as doing that through the valvestem would take WAY too long! And the hole in the wheel for the valvestem came in punched out - but quality control being what it was back then, did not always catch that the metal was sometimes not actually punched/knocked out. So when the tire machine (which was building up rims/tires to keep up with a moving assembly line) went to install the valvestem, if the hole was not there, the stem would just fall on the floor. Meanwhile, the tire got inflated as normal around the bead. If not caught, the car sometimes went to the dealer like this. Imagine the owner's or tech's expression when they went to check air pressure or add air and found no valvestem....!! Would have been a great Alan Funt/Candid Camera video!!

Walked into my pals shop the other day in the corner by the tire changer is his bead blaster. Saw it many times, this time it was facing the other way. He had painted a bright red pair of lips on it and the name Monica under them LOL

Speaking of tires and air my car has the original spare tire. I had it on car once. Have never had to add air as it’s never needed it. So I guess you could say my dart has factory air. True story
