Ignition Rotors

-
I am now confused. Let me see if I have this correct. For the electronic ignition CH-303? Points take 308? The CH-303 listing shows it fits distributors from 58-78.
Then a search for Mopar Distributor Rotor 1838516 CH308 comes up with a Standard CH 303. Shake head.
I had installed one of these rotors in my electronic distributor and it was contacting the cap brass terminals. I have never had this happen in my years, but never say never.

This is listed as fitting 73 Electronic ignition.

These are a few in my selection.

The top one is the one making contact with the cap terminals, you can see the scratch on tip and the tip also is farther out than the other two. The black ones are both made in USA, tight fit on shaft. White one is part store replacement, slips easy onto shaft. Share info on what you guys know.

Yesterday I took the rotor out of my 1970 points distributor and tried it in my newish MP distributor to see if it would fit as a spare. It fits and seems to be the same height. The Rockauto listing shows CH303 as the standard rotor. I can't find any rotors with the CH308 part number.

This post from @halifaxhops on FABO about incorrect fitting rotors got me searching for more info I did not know I needed. Ignition Rotors
I just thought the heavier black rotors were the better quality, so I would look for those.
I started to look into differences in fitment. I checked fit and rotor height on three types of currently available distributors. Stock Chrysler. Mancini Racing/ Rick/ Mopar. Firecore distributors.
I measured from distributor body to top of rotor tip.
Stock: All rotors fit shaft and sit at 1 11/32nd.
Mancini Racing/ Rick/ Mopar/etc..: white and tan rotors fit but snug, black rotors tighter all sit at 1 7/16th.
Firecore: only white rotors fit to seat 1 3/8. Black and tan take heavy force or not going on, not to seat. 1 9/16.
So with the Mancini distributor and the black rotor with freak long tip, I now know why it made contact with the cap.
Stock distributor will take any rotor.
I was wondering why it was difficult to get cap clips secured on some distributors.
The Tan and smaller white rotors are identical part number 3874401
Dirty white is a Standard no number but larger body.
Black ones look the same with one having longer tip.
