Who do you guys use?
South of Chicago, to about Champaign
NW IN to about streator
Who's left?
There's a place I've driven by in winamac IN that I think is a machine shop... Chuck's... It's about as far that way as id care to go.
Other than newco performance in kentland IN who else is there

I tried PM'ing him but box was full
Jeff alder you out there

Still an hour or more away.... I used to have 3 places within 10 miles ..
There's a place in Indiana about 15 minutes from work, when they did my /6 it took a year of waiting for them to finish it. And they did what their wanted, I asked them to mill the block 0.030, went to pick it up and they said they milled it 0.006, I even typed out a sheet telling them what all I wanted and they didn't follow it
I had to raise hell with them to get what I asked for.
I asked for new exhaust seats, they did the head without, and said "they'll be fine" and I had to tell them a 2nd and a 3rd time, no, I want new exhaust seats. So I had to wait some more for them to do what they were told
The price didn't seem so terrible but the next (and last to this point) engine I took there was a single cylinder 12hp Kohler and they took me to the cleaners on the bill for that one in comparison.

Shouldn't matter what brand of engine, machine work is machine work. I'm wanting to actually build (assemble) it myself just need someone to do the actual machining

Correct, it's metal and it's machining. It's a plus that some of the shops experience was with SBM. May know a trick or two or have a good suggestion. Let us know if it works out for you.

Put it on a palet and ship it to a mopar oriented shop.

Ship it? I may as well buy a crate engine then.... Shipping will kill that deal.
When it comes to basic engine machine work why does a "Mopar oriented shop" make a difference? I'm not building a dragster engine here. Boring 0.020 0.030 or whatever shouldn't make a difference
Polishing a crank, basic valve job etc any automotive based machine shop should be able to handle. Setting up a 350 should be the same thing as setting up a 360

Carry on then

I don't want to do this, but if I wind up doing other than building one of the 3 that I have, I'll end up just sticking a used running engine in there.
I plan on doing all of the assembly on the engine once it goes thru the machine shop process.
I'm not looking for someone to build it for me, only to do any necessary machine work.
I didn't realize a basic machine shop is getting so hard to find

Well I checked with the guy in kentland IN that I've used before and he's overwhelmed, not taking any new stuff right now until he can get caught up. Last engine I used him for took a year.
