I have been on this idea now for more than a few years. After countless 60's, 70's Mopars, I have bought (yes over the phone) a 2 door 49 Dodge survivor, sorta of. Non runner, but been garage kept all it life. Meeting the seller next monday, 12 hr. trip. Was owned by his deceased 90 odd year old uncle.
Just a flathead 6 (stuck) 3 on tree I guess the model is Wayfarer. Some rocker and lower door rust and eveything is all there down to the hubcaps! It will go back stock with maybe upgrades to disc and 8.8, maybe.
My first car was a 49 chevy which kept me from walking. I have always wondered what me and Dad could have made of it, but 2 wars (WW11 and Korea) left him a changed man. His passion in life had always been mechanical stuff, but he left the military and just stopped loving it.
I guess in my old age, I crave an old early 50's project and just not a Chevy guy, per sa! Are there any other people on here that are into these models?

I guess that is what they all a "business coupe"? I love that style, maybe a love it or hate style maybe, just cool especially for a hot rod type build. I saw one of those getting onto the big road here last year. I could tell by the sound and look it was super cool!
I admit I love learning of anything new, so this whole new deal will be a steep curve!

Can't wait to see pictures. Go over to the P15-D24 forum-lots of good information over there. And Jalopy Journal forum, another good place to visit. There is a place that makes 904-A500 transmission adapters for the Mopar flathead 6. Quality Engineered Components, he is on both the P15 and the JJ forum.

Similar body styles, I have a couple friends that have similar cars. The B5 coupe is a Plymouth but has a slant6 with a OD 833 and a 4:10/ 8 3/4 rear" With the tall tires it get's about 27 mpg on the highway. The blue rat rod is a Plymouth as well with a computerized/injected 360/OD/8 3/4 out of a 2wheel drive Dakota. Both are fun cars.

Nice cars, thanks for the pics.
I actually prefer the ratty one to the nicely painted one.
                      Maybe it's just me............

What body style? Two door could be a coupe, sedan, business coupe or convertible.
I have a 49 plymouth business coupe, still flathead/three on the tree. Fun car, unbreakable, but low geared, lots of rpm on the freeway.
(Oh and Dartnut..... thats Paul Soliz's plymouth gasser, local to me. Rat motor powered, but i dont hold that against him, lol)

Also local, shot the same day as Soliz's gasser, at irwindale dragstrip, socal. This one had a stroker big block mopar, and lots of tire. Ran well! (46-48 plymouth).

The car in post#2 is a coupe. It has a back seat. A business coupe doesnt have the rear quarter windows, or a back seat, just a shelf behind the bench seat, and a giant trunk.

@lemondana, tbanks for the mention of quality engineered components! Visited their site, and bookmarked it. Looks like they might have an adapter to put a five speed behind my flathead straight eight!

All thru high school we had 2, 49 Plymouths. A four dr and a 2 dr. 217.8 ci with 3 on the tree and 3.91 gears. 1st and 2nd would give you a run for your money but hit 3rd and it was over. Had a lot of good times in those old cars.

The first car I ever worked on was a 53 Plymouth Cranbrook 2 door .A 218 flat head 6 ,3 on the tree.My two friends and me spent the whole summer getting it going and all fixed up so we had wheels . These old cars are really cool. Those of us who grew up with these were lucky. In 1965 when I got my drivers license that 53 was only 12 years old . The kids of today get what,a 2008 piece of crap honda to play with.
