Thought I would share my 408 build with my fellow mopar maniacs. I have a 03 Dodge Ram regular cab truck with 5.9 magnum engine. Didn't really need to remove the engine but thought I would let Brian at IMM build me a engine that has some balls. He told me that the engine will be making around 425HP with 485TQ. He says that he has had great results with the cam going to be used.
I realize that IMM could build be a fire breathing engine with way more HP and TQ but I don't believe I need to get to wild because this is my daily beater. I do believe it will be a fun truck to drive however.
I was going to let Brian work up a set of heads but then I got to thinking and decided to just let him build me a engine.

    The combo will be:

    408 9.4 compression
    F&B 58mm throttle body
    Hughes FI intake
    Ford Racing 39lb injectors
Engine Quest heads 2.02/1.60 Ferra valves
    PAC beehive springs
    Comp chromoly full roller rockers
    Ford hardened push rods
    .220/.220 550/550 112LSA Comp custom roller cam
    Scat forged rods
    Scat forged 4.00 stroke crankshaft
Icon 4030 forged pistons (zero decked)
    ProSport harmonic balancer (internal)
Hipotek 30% reduction steel billet pulley
    High volume oil pump
    Flowtech ceramic coated headers
    High flow cat
    SCT tuner (FlynRyan)
    Edge 2400-2600 billet torque converter
4.56 gears with Detroit True Trac locker

It says on the F&B site..."This TB flows the equivalent of two 58mm bores, over 1200 CFM at 25". "

I was going to get the Hughes "Big Gulp" but was told they like to inflate their numbers. That the gulp flows just a shade more than a 52mm.

I like it, and can hardly wait for the report of the first test ride.

LOL. That is exactly what happened to me a few months ago. He ended up building me a 408 for my Duster. Great guy. Does what he says, when he says, and for the price he quotes. I am certain you will be satisfied with their work.

Nice truck, I'm doing the same with my 96 1500. What a coincidence.
As long as she passes the sniffer, its all smiles.lol
I bet you will be very happy with what Brian builds you, and he's a nice guy to bounce ideas off.

Nice. I bet it will be a hoot to drive.

Proof you don't need a Hemi or LS swap to make good street able power.

I like engines all nice and clean on the stand. Always look powerful too !
Always a hundred more HP on the stand. at least that's what we always thought.
Enjoy your new engine when it finally arrives, gonna be a good one.

That motor should be equal to a 400 hp rating that the car companys publish? It will definately be a fun ride! Got extra tire money?
The conservitive cam is really going to make it haul butt in the most used rpm range!

Just got off the phone with Brian.

He told me that he was going to open up the chambers to get 9.4 compression. If he doesn't open them up the engine will have 9.7 compression.

So we decided to go with static compression of 9.7 instead of 9.4
He said he has to go out of town next week for about three days tango_face_sad.png

Once he gets started on it he said he will send more pictures.

He said the engine should be ready to ship next Friday:thumbsup:

                            Gosh I hope so!

Wondering how the truck will "feel" shifting through the gears. The 46RE transmission has a Trango shift kit that I installed myself. Trans also has extra clutches, Sonnax parts,etc... I got it set for a hard second gear shift.
I realize that the stock torque convertor will not hold up very long....so going to have to with a billet convertor with a higher stall.... 2400-2600 is what Edge converters told me.
I think the higher stall speed will "tame" the shifts a little bit... not shift as hard another words.

                            Just wondering...

I kind of told a little fib about the Detroit TruTrac in my first post... I don't have it yet but it is in the near future. It's a open carrier right now.
I had a Auburn limited slip but one of the springs broke for some reason. I didn't have it installed less that a year... I was pissed. I'll never buy another Auburn for anything.

Once I get the engine in I will get the DTT and maybe install it myself. I have never worked on a rearend .... setting backlash.....etc...
I've watched vids on youtube...got all the tools mostly... still a little paranoid about the install.

How much do you figure the truck will weigh with driver?

Looking online it shows curb weight of 4516lbs
With me added it would be 4695
This is kind of silly but I have two subwoofer boxes behind the seat is which are approximately 30lbs each so the grand total would be 4755lbs

Wow! I had no idea they were that heavy. I figured a 2wd would be 4000. Still, that 425 hp will make it lively. Are yo having it dynoed?

Brian said he was going to break in the engine on the dyno. Not sure if he is going to give it the beans to see what it produces.
I would like to get the truck chassis dynoed eventually.
